It's not as different as you'd think :) It's the same fundamental process and the impact on your ability to see is the same. Any time you light up immediately in front of yourself you're taking away from your down-road visibility. At freeway speeds it's far, far too late to do anything about what you're seeing in your fog lights and they're taking away from your ability to see things that you actually have a chance at avoiding.

"But foreground light is far less safety-critical than light cast well down the road into the distance, because at any significant speed (much above 25 mph), what's in the foreground is too close for you to do much about. That is, at normal road speeds, whatever is close enough to be within the foreground light is too close for you to avoid hitting. If you increase the foreground light (such as by turning on the fog lamps), your pupils react to the brighter pool of foreground light by constricting, which in turn substantially reduces your distance vision—especially since there's no increase in down-the-road distance light to go along with the increased foreground light. This is also the reason why it is not appropriate to have fog lamps lit with the high beam headlamps: if you're going fast enough to need high beams, you definitely don't want to spoil your distance vision by overly lighting the foreground."

It doesn't take much foreground light to cause this; you can easily overdo it with your dashboard lights

I actually just had my eyes checked out on the 4th at the VA. Got a G2G on them with new glasses ordered (3yr old frames and thus lenses are discontinued).

Would this effect be slightly diminished if the fog lights were, say less bright than the headlights? Meaning my natural focus is down the road but if I'm cornering and I looked down to the left the fog lights still provide enough elimination for me to see what I'm looking at but my natural focus would driving straight is ahead.

    If that makes sense

Yes. Some headlights now are so fkng bright, I consider them a road hazard. As far as fog lights in Oregon, I don't worry about it. This state doesn't enforce shit anyway. I see a State Police car maybe once every 3 months.

Only times I have been stopped in OR was when they wanted to check out what I was driving. Once in my stepside Chevy LUV with a 350, once in my '40. Even had a Trooper pull up next to me when I was driving my '40 and got me to punch it from 65 to show his ride along what the big block could do in my car.

The only car I watch out for is a silver unmarked that patrols the highway 97. I think it's a Camaro. He's all over the place and likes to pull people over.

I'm pretty sure that's the existing setup - stock foglight bulbs are distinctly smaller than the low beam headlight bulbs, implying they're lower output. If folks go to aftermarket setups things can be whatever.

I'd suggest going outside and viewing with your own eyes with fogs on and off, see if you discern any impact on your ability to identify stuff at the far edge of your low beams.

Sometimes practical experimentation beats a bunch of armchair theorizing.

    Anyway.

Government lawsuit filed against business owner who paid worker in thousands of oily pennies

The owner of an auto repair shop, Miles Walker, famous for giving more than 90,000 oily pennies to a former employee, is being sued by the Department of Labor for thousands of unpaid wages.

CBS46 first told you about Walker back in March 2021 when he reportedly dumped the oily pennies at a former worker's house as his final paycheck.

After speaking to the former worker, Andreas Flatten, CBS46 went and spoke to Walker, owner of 811 Autoworks LLC — operating as A OK Walker Autoworks, who said he knew about the penniesand didn't deny or admit to dumping them.

The DOL said they received complaints against Walker and after investigating him and the business, they are seeking $36,971 in back wages and liquidated damages after investigators found the business violated the retaliation, overtime and recordkeeping prohibitions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

In a statement, the DOL said the department’s Wage and Hour Division determined that Walker retaliated against one employee who contacted the agency after he resigned and the employer failed to pay his final wages.

I mean I'm saying the effect is good with my fog lights especially since they're the yellow color and not super bright LED halogen blind the moon white. Was just wondering about the effect with all the armchair theorizing regarding human physiology lol

As far as testing goes, my fog lights cover areas of the ground that my headlights do not. Which in my mind is kind of how it's supposed to work anyway...

He was a good comic, just that everyone got a poor impression of his chops being on essentially kids shows and doing other writer's jokes.

Filthy funny. Like, shamefully filthy funny. In smaller venues he would roast audience members mercilessly and hilariously.

I'm motivated to see if any of it made it to the tube.
