What do yall think of Everstart batteries?

This. I got one 16 months ago, used to the tilt (I often sleep in my truck while road tripping, and I often keep the radio as I sleep) and have had ZERO problems.

 

No, the warranty works just as it's supposed to when the salesperson knows how to apply it. (meaning new warranty starts with new battery)
Cold kills batteries, heat hurts them fatally......something like that I've always heard, maybe it was heat was the helper.

 

The more expensive batteries are heavier. The only thing that would make it that way would generally be more lead plates/thicker plates. You generally get more life out of them, or at least a little more durability. The "warranty" is just marketing. Get the heavier battery regardless of warranty, and you should expect to get at least the warranty period of life out of it. The no warranty ones can be 5lbs less weight. Maybe okay in temperate climates but I wouldn't bank on them in cold winters. I have thought about using a no warranty battery as of late since I barely drive anymore.

 

I don't know who makes them but Autozone's Duralast is exactly the same as the factory one in my 2nd generation. I get about 4 years out of the factory and Duralast.

 

I had an interstate battery last 12 years in my Tacoma. Was in there before I bought the pickup. Went back to Interstate batteries. They have decent CCA and it's a 5 year warranty. Paid about $150 for it I believe.

 

That's what I had. Lasted from June 2014 to October 2018. Ran to Wal-Mart and grabbed an everstart for about 100 bucks. Hopefully it fails within the 3 year warranty and I get a new one free of charge.

 

Nothing beat the old AC Delco batteries........................... Now days 3-5 years on any of them and they are done.

 

I've only ever had batteries get slow and die in extreme heat. Used to leave my taco outside in the negatives for months and be fine when I came back to fire it up. But one summer in PHX killed my Maxima battery (generic Johnson Controls) that was only 3.5yrs old. My cruiser battery is a Toyota TrueStart and it's going on six years and still works great. I have a Odyssey AGM in the Taco now. And my Z has an everstart (that seems good but I'll probably replace with a lighter AGM bat later on to avoid fire risks)

 

Bought the truck in 2016 with battery dated 6/13, left lights on yesterday so it’s a slow crank now. I went and bought another one to replace it.

 

I have had good luck with both East Penn and Interstate .

I am very hard on batteries if I get 2 years I am happy .

Vehicles can sit for weeks then most use is a 20 mile round trip with 6 stops

 

I've always been curious if the battery wraps prolong the life of a battery??

my experience with batteries in several vehicles is that the OEM batteries in Japanese cars are very good. I have almost always had a decent commute, and I believe that helps the life of the battery, because it gets a good healthy charge after starting, especially on cold days. My 2002 Sentra battery lasted until 2009. I had to go away for a course, and I had maybe a 1 mile commute to the class. It died on me there in Mississippi. I think it would have lasted longer if I was driving a longer distance every day. Our Corolla (2017) battery died last winter, but we don't drive the car much (it is an automatic bought for my wife). It died at the gym, and I had to get a AAA battery. My Taco has an Interstate battery from Costo, which I got a very good price.

 

They are perfectly fine batteries. But I'm sure there are people who swear off them and say they're crap because they had one die on them once.

Any of the big brands that have a 3-5 year warranty will be fine.

Things change a bit if you have a winch or other high power accessories.

 

My Work Ford 550 came with battery wraps from new if they helped who knows .

 

My AC Delco in my chevy is going on 7 years and still going.

 

Prorated means after the 3 year replacement warranty expires for every month after the first 36 you get less of a credit .

I have had Good Luck with both East Penn and Interstate Batteries over the years I really think it comes down to .
the sales person for the manufacture .

If I get 2 years out of a new Battery I am Happy !

 

I prefer interstate or oem battery but none seem to last anymore. 5 years your doing good.

Most times i notice.

 

Not much difference in life of a cheap vs expensive lead acid battery. Twice the cost will not give you twice the life. If you really understand batteries you'll know that the worst environment for one is in the engine bay of a vehicle. I buy the cheapest one I can find that hasn't been sitting on the shelf very long. Bring a volt meter with you when choosing a battery.
