What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Do you mind letting me know which shop did this so I can avoid them?

 

Landcruiser NW in Portland.

Work done was:

• OME BP51 kit full install
• ECGS needle bearing replacement
• Differential drop
• Cab mount chop

Original quote was $1,400.

Showed up to get the truck and with no warning, the price was now $2,100 (and oh, the cab mount chop was skipped...)

Very unhappy with their work and would even consider taking them to small claims for all the damage done if I thought it'd be worth the hassle (it wouldn't be.)

 

Learn to wrench. It's not rocket science.

I live in Portland with no garage or driveway, or else I would've definitely asked a TW user to come supervise me in exchange for some brewskies.

There have been times where crackheads run up Supermarket Sweep style to steal shit out of the bed of the truck while I am working on it because they have no shame. Which means there is zero chance I'd be able to leave thousands of $$$ in parts and tools laying around during the install (being done in the street, remember!)

Wait for the housing market to crash again. Should be within the next two years. You'll probably be able to pick up a good spot for cheap while guys like me are watching their equity evaporate like so much morning dew.

 

Portland is without a doubt a city in steep decline.

I've only been here a decade and the differences are stark. Can't imagine how someone who grew up here must feel.

Moot point soon enough though, I'm fleeing back to the rust belt where I can have literally 9x the space for $400/mo less in rent.

 

It didn't feel too sketchy while it was happening, but I'd be lying if I said that happening didn't cross my mind lol

 

It may be -9 right now here in MN, but we got space for everything. Just stay out of the cities and your golden.

 

I moved from Northwest Indiana between Chicago and Gary to North Carolina about 6 years ago now. I don't regret it at all.

 

I popped on the AJT Design Army Green Radio Knobs today - they look great and are a perfect complement to the steering wheel trim and door handle covers.

 

Now all you need is some green trim pieces around the door switches.

 

I was just watching National Lampoons Vacation the other day. The opening credits show post cards from various places. Two of which are in MN and I've been to both. One is a Giant muskey and the other is Paul Bunyan and Babe the big blue ox. I know Paul is in Bemidji and that muskey is somewhere near by or at least in between there and Duluth

I was thinking that a TRD Pro shift knob with the the TRD illuminated with a Green LED would look very cool.

 

Paul and Babe are about 20 blocks from where I'm sitting. And if this is the muskie you're talking about, that's about 20 miles down the road. And if it's not, there's another one about a half hour past that! We have enough giant fish statues around here to fill an ocean.
