I recently accepted a new job which requires me to drive 60 miles one way. Putting these miles on a lifted Tacoma on 32s that gets 15 mpg just didn't make sense. So i added this little toy to the stable. It is a 2008 Mazda3 with 30k on it. I love it so far.

this thread reminds me of something else

close friend of mine has a 2005 tundra crew cab .... but hardly anyone else knows he has it cause his wife stays at home, so he drives her 05 matrix to work (40+ miles each way)

It has a five speed. The advertised mpg is like 30 on the hwy. I have yet to fill the tank. It is probably one of the most fun cars I have driven, it feels like it is on rails even witht he blizzak snow tires on it.

Makes sense. Use the Taco for fun and hauling. Use the 3 for daily commute until it snows. Is this a 5-day/wk job? You will be racking up over 30K miles per year, which means in two years the 3 will have 90K on it. In three years it will be near end-of-life.

It is 5 days a week but is a contractor job. So the miles may come down in a while.

    metro gray?

great car! i had the speed3 version. it got CRAPPY mileage and i got pulled over Thrice!! ticketed once. the thing was a rocket. i took the wife subaru hunting one two many times, and finally realized the speed3 was not fitted to my life properly. it was difficult to let go. the porsche in the garage fill the sporty void...enough.

youre an idiot if you consider 90k on a japaense car "end of life" ... where i come from thats hardly broken in ... throw on another tbelt (if it has one) and water pump and keep going!

So that is the name of the color. The dealer had it on their website at gray but the key tag says blue. I had no idea what the the color was called but it looks pretty close to the pic of the speed3. I love driving it and could see how the speed could get you into trouble.

The OP bought it used at 30k. In three years it will be at 120k if he keeps up the milage. The powertrain will be fine (and it has a timing chain I believe), but a lot of other parts will start to go at the same time - accessory belts, water pump, ignition coils, shocks, ball joints, CV... The trick is to sell the car before the majority of the repair bills hit.
