Yeah that’s definitely something to consider. With the lca being like almost 2 grand though it just makes more sense to just get the 2.25 the more I think about it. I’m sure I could sell the uppers for 3-400. I have the uppers with rubber bushings but jd fabs bushings are probably way better than the stock ones.

Don't go down the rabbit hole of aftermarket LCA's. Just go long travel. I went the aftermarket LCA route, and it was not justifiable. Besides, Stock replacement kings are more expensive than the LT coilovers.

    Whole lotta stuff
The JD fab sealed uniball is a nice feature. Part of the reason I’m selling the solo 2+ kit in favor of the 2.25 kit.

If you do decide to stay mid-travel, camburg offers uniball pivot, stock-length LCAs. It’s just where you want your limit to be. Mid travel and tuning can still take you pretty far. Especially if you need the money for camping setups.

However, I liked what @Evenflow told me when I bought the 2+ kit off him. If you get to your campsite 20 mins faster from traveling at a higher speed, that’s 20 more mins you get to spend at your destination.

Also, keep in mind 934's and hydro bumps are NOT a requirement to at least get a kit on the truck. So that alone takes 2k+ off

If I remember right from previously you’d just have to strap it sooner correct? I can’t remember what the max angle Harry said the stock axles can take?

Yup. You would strap it sooner. If I recall the 934's gave an extra inch or two. But either way, you can add them any time.

Never understood the point of aftermarket stock length LCAs. Seems like a waste of money.

I’ve run 5100s with stock coils and 886, King mid travel and now the JD 2.25”. Neither of the first two come close to the comfort and ability of the LT kit. I’ve never been one to go fast, but since I’ve been driving the f150, I notice how slow I have to go when I leave pavement. Like really really slow. I can absolutely bomb the shit out of stuff in the Tacoma and it loves it. It’s solid, nothing feels hollow like a stock truck. If I had to do it over again I’d skip the King bling/mid travel set up and put money towards some real travel.

Thanks for the advice guys! I’ll probably just rock my jd fab uppers for 6 months or so until I can save up for the 2.25 kit and rear sua kit. I have enough work to keep me busy for a while with the inner fenders, slide rack and lower pivots.

one of my buddies bought a set of the TC lowers and it takes a lot of deflection out of the lower arms. Small bumps don't seem to cause the steering wheel to jerk. I couldn't see spending the money on them but it did make his truck drive really nice.

They do make the ride nicer. I tore one of my LCAs at the bushing so that’s why I went with the dirt kings

Fair enough. Just for the price I would sooner just reinforce the stock ones and put in poly bushings or go long travel if they are causing issues.

@lferrara I'm going to go ahead an chime in here with what is likely a less popular opinion.

LT is not for everyone. If you're starting fresh, it may be beneficial to go straight to LT if you know what is the direction you want to head anyway but you can achieve good ride quality for far less cost if you stick with a well tuned set of AM shocks (King/Fox/ADS) with a UCA. IMO, the additional price of AM stock length arms defeats the budget idea and at that point go LT. They absolutely reduce deflection but there is a point of diminishing returns. Stock length LCAs are exactly that. I'd personally spend the $$ on gussets, which sounds like you've already started doing and figure out how you want to use the truck from there.

LT really shines when you want to start increasing travel numbers and push the truck harder. With that said, a Tacoma rear setup can't keep up with a well tuned front MT kit so consider what your plans are for the rear before you jump LT. I can't say there isn't anywhere my MT kit wouldn't take me but I am very happy with the 2.25" kit and the extra travel.

My thoughts as well. I’ve said it to friends before but in hindsight I wish I wouldn’t have bought LT and just stuck with an MT setup. It worked nicely for my truck and I would’ve had an extra $9k (LT + tundra rack) in the bank. The truck is definitely more stout and capable now but I didn’t need it. I just get caught up in building it bigger and better and have a hard time leaving it be and enjoying it.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I've yet to find something that my current setup hasn't been able to do. Yes, my travel might be worse and have to double lock at some points to do certain obstacles but I've been very happy with my truck. I really just want to beef up front end and put 35's on. That being said im sure at some point down the road when my build changes at some point ill probably look into LT kit. Been able to take it down every trail outside of buggy only trails out there. Only thing really holding me back is ground clearance from tire size which is what im trying to address next. Oh and my core support is f%$@ed.

I have no regrets of going LT but I did it for my own reasons and waited for the prime opportunity. I also push my truck harder than most. It's in a constant state of needing work but I'm also nearly 5 years into this build and have learned A LOT throughout the process. It's not something I jumped straight into.

I'm more oriented towards Harry's thought below. The truck is a tool I use to have experiences and build relationships. The difference between performance between MT & LT is minimal when you think about the amount of down time for repairs, trips, opportunities and overall quality time with people you may miss out on by trying to build a truck with the biggest tire, most travel, etc.

Exactly, i fell into the pit a while back and have finally climb out. I got tired of constantly working on the truck and just decided to leave it as is and enjoy it for the last year. Its been one of the best years ive ever had in terms of riding with buds camping and personal life.
