Looking for off-set wheels but not sure how much off-set I need

I have a 03 DC 4x4 that I put a 3in lift on about a year ago. I have 16in 09 TRD wheels on it on it now with 1.25 in spacers. I would like to buy some aftermarket wheels so that I can get rid of the spacers. I want 16in so that I can use my same tires because they are in really good shape and were not cheap ( yoko geolanders at/s). My question is what off set do I need on the new wheels in order to clear the UCA's? I love the look of my wheels and tires now with the 1.25in spacers because it doesnt let the tires stick way outside of the truck body but clears the UCA's perfectly so I really want to go no more outside than what im looking at now. I searched the forum but never could find the answer to my question. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.

 

i think the magic number is 4.0 or 4.5 if you're running a 16" wheel. ....someone may way to verify that though..

 

4.25 thats in inches correct? Im not sure 4.00 will fly because with the 1.25 spacers it just does clear the UCA so 4.25-4.5 will probably be ideal for me. I had to go with spacers for a little bit for $$ reasons or lack there of. Didnt want to but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. I havent had any trouble out of them thus far but I really wanna get away from them.

 

The less back spacing you have the more your tires will stick out I have 3.74" backspacing.

Really all you need to do is remove the wheel and and lay it down on the front side. Measure by putting a straight piece of wood on the back side of the wheel with the spacer sitting on the wheel and measure from the wood to the spacer & that will give you your current backspacing. If you buy a wider wheel adjust accordingly to achieve your desired stance.

Backspacing is the distance between the back of the rim and the rim mounting point.

 

I figured it out. I just wasnt tracking as to how you were measuring for how much backspace but I got it now. Ill take one off today and see how much I have. The only set of wheels that I found that I like are pro comps so far with a 4.5BS so I might not have much of an option. Thanks for your help though

 

does anyone have some wheels on their taco with 4.5 backspacing and if so could you snap a picture from the back and front for me so I can see what it looks like. it would be much appreciated.

 

Search for pics of folks with 285's. Almost everyone who runs 285's has wheels with 4.5" backspacing.

 

awesome, I get it now so less is more. Ive done some research on some other forums and found that 4.5 BS is what im looking for I think. I believe the fj TRD wheels are 4.5 BS so im thinking of looking at them because I really cant seem to find an aftermarket wheel that I like in a 16x8 thats 6 lug except for the pro comp xtreme alloy series 7089 black finish. If anyone knows of any other wheels with the 6 spoke design that are the matte black finish, please let me know so I can check them out

 

4 inch backspacing will make your tires poke out more than 4.5 inch backspacing. the smaller the backspacing, the more clearance between tire and your UCA

 

That's correct for a given rim width.

But if the rims width changes and the backspacing stays the same, all of that width difference will go into making the wheel poke out more.

Example, my rims are 9" wide, with 5.5" backspacing. They will stick out more than a 7" wide rim with 4.5" backspacing, even though I have more backspacing.

 

ok so I guess what im asking is I have a 3in lift a true 3in with 285/75/16's will a 4.5BS be enough to clear my tires from my UCA's on a 16x8 rim?

 

I have a set of mickey thompson wheels and tires I'm trying to sell. They're 16x10 with 265/75 16 baja radial MTX. I had them on my 08 with a 3" lift and I never had a problem. My dad had them before me on his 03 doublecab with no lift and never had a problem. Here is my truck with the MT wheels and tires.

Those don't look like 16x10's man I'm thinking you got 16x8's maybe 16x9's with a 10" rim those 265's would be so bulged out i have 15x10's and my 12.50's bulge out more then your tires.

 

awesome thanks. now does anyone have pics back and front with a 285 on a rim thats 8in wide, with a BS of 4.5 so that I know that it wont stick out so far from my body? Because if this BS size does, i will go with another option
