I just called a dealer to get some OEM parts and they told me that I had to choose between getting bed lights or remote tailgate installed. They said there was a conflict.

Has anyone had an issue with this? It would baffle me if this was true.

I have both the factory Toyota LED bed lights and remote tailgate lock installed on my 2021 TRD OR, and both work as intended.

Probably a conflict with power supply. Their monkey mechanics aren’t smart enough to find a power source that isn’t on the instruction sheet

That's weird. The wiring for the bed lights on a 2021 is present already and all you need is the small harness from the body to the light. AFAIK the remote tailgate lock wiring is all independent of the bed lights if done in an OEM manner.

Absolutely false. I have the OEM remote tailgate lock and the OEM bed lights and have no issues with either system on my 2020.

I have 21 OR that came with the LEDs in the bed and recently installed the OEM tailgate lock. I think there’s a problem with the mechanics at the dealership. The tailgate lock was pnp and was pretty easy following the videos on the YouTube.

Forgot to mention that we also have a 2021 with both bed lights and the power tailgate lock. I believe the confusion at the dealership is due to earlier 3rd gen the bed lights required a harness run from the cab all the way to the bed and the grommet that it used was the same grommet that the power tailgate lock harness used.

Completely false. Maybe for earlier years as someone else mentioned.

Buy the parts and install it yourself, super easy installs on both.

2021 Sport with both, no issues. Find a new dealership, clearly someone doesn’t want to do the work.

My 2017 came with bed lights from the factory. I installed the OEM tailgate power lock 2 years ago. No conflicts.

Thanks for all the replies! Seems like it's just an error in their install manual. I'll just install myself!

The dealer told me the same thing when I bought bedlights. They said the bedlights use the same plug that the remote lock uses, so I would only be able to install one or the other. My guess is that the harness is not made to accommodate both unless they are both factory installed.

Has anyone installed both on a truck that didn't have them both initially?

I have 2021 TRD OR. It didn’t come with either of them. I bought both OEM kits and installed them myself with no issues.

I did. Installed both. First the bed lights which are plug and play and takes about 15-20 min if you’re taking your time. Then I installed the oem tailgate lock. The two were completely separate from each other and don’t share any wiring components. The bed lights have a harness behind the tail lights. The remote lock you run a wiring harness to the front passenger side of the cab. Tailgate lock took me about 2 hours, but I really took my time and did the install meticulously.
