No, no, no, heck no! I'd like to start on enclosing the carport on the new house as soon as we move in, but it looks like the weather is gonna change those plans. :annoyed: Also looks like it's gonna snow for when I pick the trailer up from Uhaul. That's gonna be fun to drag up the mountain in the snow...

So the garage door finally gave up the ghost after work today!! After the wife and I respooled the cables on the drums numerous times over the weekend. The cables keep jumping the drums , garage guythinks the spring has slipped. We would fix the right side , then the left side would jump off, then it would work for 2 or 3 cycles then start again. So today aftervwork they both jumped off , looked like a rats nest. Stainless steel cables all sprung . SMH. I tried I tried.....

Things like this always seem to happen at the worst time. I am always afraid to leave my garage open in very cold weather for too long because some wild animal may take shelter in there.

I hate to pay people to do something I can do myself -- sometimes it is worth it to just call a repairman and be done.

Might be time to get rid of the springs that run parallel with the tracks and get the style that coil up spring at the header. They seem to be much quieter and last longer.

That's what I have , the 1 spring on the header. The door and opener is only about 12 yrs old. The spring was replaced about 5 yrs ago , new cable in the spring..... it gets a lot of use. Just don't understand it. Seems so simple. I had to laugh over the weekend when we fixed the on side the other side popped off .... at some point my wife had to think why in the world did i marry this guy.

I might take you up on the offer this summer!!

When helping haul Frozen Shrimp in the 50 pound cases in the -10f Freezer I needed to still strip down to my last layer and work slow to not be soaking wet sweated.

that’s weird. I know I was messing with my dads garage the other weekend because same thing happened and turned out he replaced a few rollers and had one 180° out of phase so it was creating side loading on the door.

If your vehicles are parked on your deeded Property or leased property it does not impact your Mall Crawler Status.

As far as I can see yes. But when the garage door is fully open I have a little bit of slack on the drums, sometimes it jumps off sometimes it doesn't. Garage guy says it should be no slack and taunt.

Something slipped cause I have slack. Maybe the drums did slip or the spring somehow un wound a turn or 2?

I had a bunch of (larger obviously) overhead doors at my work with the spring on the header setup, I also had a small, very good, local overhead door company.

My take away from having them in over the years was that wear in several parts of the door adds up and starts causing trouble. Fortunately most of the parts aren't very expensive. A good "doorman" does more than just make the door work, he makes it work well.

If it were summer time I would try and tighten up the spring and see if that fixes the slack .. but to darn cold.

The springs do wear, the coils should be nice and even with no gaps. There are standard springs and high cycle springs also.
