I bought a 2070 super for like $400 at the beginning of the GPU crunch and man I'm glad I did. It'll still play most things just fine. It's the strongest component and my now aging build.

When it's time to upgrade for realsies I'll probably just buy a prebuilt I can spec out and suck up the extra couple hundred bucks just to get everything I want

We need more powerful PCs so we can lose money faster.
I’ll probably pick out a pre-built also due to graphics card pricing. Only concern is they often don’t specify the MB model and throw in the cheapest they can get.
PC Power and others make me nervous, I’ve looked at some HPs and Dells. My range is $1200-$1400 with an Rtx 2060 and an Intel I5 9600k or better. The Intels were better performers with X-Plane 11, haven’t checked out preferred builds for X-plane 12 yet.

I didn't really see any case I liked for the $100 price point so I really liked this one for $124 with 3 fans. Reviews looked nice on Amazon. It's basically going to be the family computer. So for me, trading and internet browsing. No gaming, I only play Xbox. The kids will want to play Minecraft and Roblox on it, nothing crazy. I want reliability probably a little more than speed. I just want to be able to execute trades with no lag. My 2014 Macbook pro takes a second to switch charts on TOS when I have that, Twitter, and Discord open and I'm over it. I could probably get away with spending about $1k for something adequate for my needs but I've always spent more to have better things.

Your build sounds great for your mission. I agree with paying a few more hundred to get what you really want.

Disclaimer: I drive an SR Poverty Package. Out of choice not necessity lol.

Someone on Discord just told me to ditch the x570 motherboard and go with the B550-F instead. Same price, just newer. And that solved the compatibility issue the website was warning me about apparently.

I'm an Intel guy so I'm not up to speed on AMD's sockets. Newer is almost always better.

I have some bad news for you. You're gonna need to move directly adjacent to the exchange and get a bunch of fiber optic cable. It's going to cost you just a bit more than a couple grand. Two or three hundred million oughta get the infrastructure laid before you start buying the computers needed to exercise the trades.

Make sure you have a few million in bribes set aside for the budget as well

The last thing I'm waiting to hear from my brother-in-law that does this stuff and AV for a living is if he thinks I should go Intel over AMD for the CPU. I'm basically just going to have him build it.

Oh I'm not talking about the things I can't control. I just mean as far as my computer performance goes. I want to be able to click on a ticker and the chart pulls up instantaneously. Not freeze for 3 seconds first. I guess that's what happens when you trade on an 8 year old macbook with discord and twitter and a bunch of other windows open too.

Here I am talking smack about PC builds meanwhile I have a 5 year old Toshiba laptop running Windows 7. I do have a fairly new corporate HP and a dual monitor setup for work here at my home office but that doesn’t count.
I did provide support to my youngest son to upgrade his PC graphics card and power supply a couple years ago. My oldest son builds his own.

Both are solid chips. The only reason I don't use AMD is they used to have Linux compatibility issues. lol

They're fine nowadays. 50/50 if you go intel or amd at this point. Buy whatever has the best specs for the dollar. They'll both play equally nice with the linux distributions

Yep. That why I said used too. My desktop is going on 5 years old. Back then AMD still didn't play nice with Linux. Since then both AMD and NVDA have had their propriatary codes reverse engineered. So both now play nice with Linux if you want to use open source drivers. Both also have propriatary drivers that also play nice with Linux now. Market share will do that. lol

I'm running the 6700K. Overclocked to the gills. Still strong after years of use.

Like the fiber optic line they paid to run from New York to Chicago to get the millisecond advantage
