    Thank you for the replies.

I agree: I think they want to find a binding contract for both sides - and I think that includes setting the market price during my appointment. I was a little grumpy that they wouldn't tell me over the phone, but not surprised. Ultimately, they want you there to sell you a truck and get you to sign a contract.

The $2,500 is rather steep and surprising to me, but the person on the phone didn't say it was an allocation deposit - they said it was a "build down payment" or something like that.

After sleeping on it and reading the responses, I'm going to keep the appointment - as @40prcnt said, it can't hurt - and I'll just be ready to walk away. There's also the chance that the phone person simply doesn't fully understand the process and has the sole job of getting you in the dealership.

I will certainly update this thread since what I was told over the phone is significantly different from what others have been told.

Findlay Toyota in Flagstaff, Az has 6 Tacoma's on order that are not spoken for. I bought mine at this dealership with no Market Valuation Add On with only a $500 fully refundable deposit. It took less than 4 weeks from deposit to be built and delivered. No pressure dealership. Ask for Vlad Tell him Marty sent you.

Sounds like a good dealership... alas, I wish I could! But I'm just a little further away than I can manage... 2,400 miles or so :D

Flew to Montana from New Mexico for mine. Much cheaper than the “$5000 market adjustment” here.

I paid 3999 for the dealer to add on ceramic paint protection, bed extender, Trd crash plate and tint the windows. Had a $4200-ish Toyota employee discount, so I called it a wash.
Dealers in GA would not take a discount, plus add $5K in "Market adjustments".
Inflation will push prices even higher, plus the promised 3 interest hikes this year. Should have bought in 2020, but...... Shoulda, coulda.

We just put down a deposit for 22 TRD OR, DC AT, at MSRP. The dealer has 180 days to fulfill, but will hopefully handle it before then. We planning on a fair amount dealer installed options, must importantly the TRD Lift Kit. This is our first truck, but not our first car. The dealer took a $2K non-refundable deposit (they have to refund if they cannot fill the order). Many dealers in the area have $5K-$10K mark up. I was surprised to see that, it has been awhile since I had seen something like that (Dodge Caravans in the 90s had that for a bit), was the last time I had seen that.

Finally got one allocated to me!!
Had to switch to red due to there being a paint shortage with Lunar Rock, per my salesperson. Being built on 1/31! So pumped!

Kind of in the same boat. Been thinking about a new vehicle for some time. Honestly could not make up my mind what I wanted. Thought about a WRX, one of those turbo AWD Buick wagons, midsized trucks, Grand Cherokee... list was long. Just couldn't justify it. Also, nothing currently available jumps out at me.

Then, the wife found someone "better". Sold the house for a massive amount of profit. My current vehicle has been nickel and diming me for the past 3 years. Figured it's time. Divorce is over and done, took a little bit of the cash and set it aside for a new vehicle.

Decided on the Tacoma since it has the least amount of bullshit Tech in it. It is exactly what I like. It is the "oldest" New vehicle I could get outside of a 4Runner. Plus my last truck was a 1987 GMC S15 Durango way back in 1999, lol. Figured a small truck would be fun.

What I didn't know, was the current state of the market. Still think I got a respectable deal. There is a AMV on mine, it's not crazy at 2k. So I'm good with it. Plus the dealer makes me feel comfortable. Probably a ruse, but whatever. Lol.

So here I am, plugging my temp VIN into the Toyota customer site, waiting to see it come up as "invalid VIN". Lol

So mine was scheduled to be built today and when I checked this morning I still had the temp VIN, BUT just checked again and it says invalid now so I'm assuming it's getting built on time!!!!!

I had the same thing happen at a dealer where I knew a manager in another dept. I'm getting a "friends and family $1000 discount" which was never discussed other than he told me he'd get me a discount. The sales guy he put me with seems like a nice guy but not too gung ho about getting my truck. He told me they wouldn't even charge the $500. I ordered 11/24, and when i followed up last week he told me he hadn't gotten an allocation yet for me 3-4 more months. So I went down the street to another MSRP dealer that supposedly could get it faster. I put a $500 deposit with them and they charged it. Sales guy there said he would be able to get it faster. I told him i'd bail on my $500 to get my truck faster aka you don't have me by the balls. He told me on the phone the deposit was refundable and when I got there he told me it wasn't refundable. So now I have a deposit at two dealers, I wish I had gone to both originally. I was rear ended in my 2017 OR 11/8 and it was totaled out. Waited until 11/24 to order like a moron.

    First post here:

12/29/2021 - Put a deposit on an allocated 22 TRD Sport 4x4 Lunar Rock with last four of 50B092. Original build estimate of 1/3/2022 and delivery 1/29/2022.
1/08/2022 - Update from dealer that new delivery date is 2/07/2022 - 2/12/2022. Bummer.

Ya I called the dealer out on that and he told me the Toyota system says 1/11, he confirmed that date again last week so I don't get it.
