Yeah, if you get 1mpg gain, then your looking at like 100 tanks to break even ($3 gallon gas, tune cost being $300) The higher the fuel price, the quicker it would pay for itself though. I fill up once a month, so its going to take me over 8 years for the gain to pay for itself at current gas prices.

I didn't get the tune for increased acceleration either, but it's certainly not an unwelcome change. I own a vehicle that out-accelerates 99.999% of those on the road today. The Taco is my DD. However as an auto enthusiast, I am just stating my observations after an initial post-tune drive. Even without the acceleration bonus, it's clear the tune is worth the money (for me), assuming it does well going up mountain grades. For me, for the price, it's a no-brainer. To each their own.

I literally cant merge onto the highway safely without going WOT with the short on-ramps here... I'd rather not be plowed by a semi.... do you live in the country? Tacoma's drive great on country roads... under 55mph...

If it's anything like Lubbock texas... i was there for a meeting... i left 30 minutes early incase i got stuck in traffic (pre-Waze)... google said it was a 15 minute drive... it took 14 minutes at "rush hour"... lol. I could live there without going over 2500rpm.

I have same exhaust modifications. Takes a little bit for the tune to get along with everything

You will love this tune . I run premium on normal throttle. My truck is a slight fat kid

Good morning, all. Quick question related to different fuel octanes with the Tune - is there a noticeable performance difference going premium vs. regular? And does the throttle setting level (sport vs. normal) in conjunction with the octane also make a difference? Asking because in my stomping grounds of MA, NH, CT, ME, the only two octane levels you can count on finding pretty much everywhere are 87 and 93. (Although 89 is not so uncommon, 91 is rare). Also, it's pretty much E10 year-round everywhere also. Asking as I get close to pulling the trigger on this because 93 is usually $0.75 more per gallon vs 87, and while I have always put it into my BMW without question (since manual says min 91), I would like to understand why I might wish to do so on my truck going forward.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I recommend premium fuel and normal throttle for a heavy truck .

I have recorded better fuel mileage also running premium. I have tried 87 and 89 octane . With the way my truck is set up and how much it weighs , premium fuel gave back the power it was missing .

I was under the impression that "pro" had octane learning potential, and that there wasn't specific octane tunes with pro. Am I not correct in this? Or should you just stick with one octane from the start for the best results? Thanks.

Just wondering about ECT mode on these trucks with a tune.

If I am understanding right, ECT has its own set of maps for everything. So we have a built in "turbo button". Have you guys tried making a mpg only tune, then push the ect button and it switches over to a performance tune?

Yes pro has octane learning . When at first I tried 87 octane I was happy with first impressions. Like I put few thousand miles on tune with 87 octane , so I had plenty of time to be familiar with how it reacts in all conditions I come across in my daily 140 mile commute to work. One day I said F it let's throw some 91 octane in . With in the first 15 miles of fresh full tank of 91 I was like omg this damn truck is actually scootin. I did try one tank of 89 octane , I should have tried one more full tank but I couldn't resist the premium fuel . For what it's worth to me I will continue to run premium with kdmax pro .

I have said this before but if you could combine Valley runner and kdmax pro sport throttle for ect I would be in heaven

Thank you @shotgunbilly420 . Hoping to get tuned at the end of this week. Trying to get all the questions answered before then. Really excited to give it a shot. Thinking normal throttle. Someone here had said that ect button will increase throttle response a bit more after the tune. Is this true? Thanks.

Yes ect holds gears longer and is a bit more responsive. Main use for ect for me is passing on hwy or steep steep grades , other than that this tune is very dialed in to wear I'm using ect less and less everyday . Remember I'm using 91 octane

I ran both octane on Pro with Sport and Normal. I'm currently on 87, switched before NY
Just my observation. For me, the difference is miniscule. MPG is the same.
Both don't knock across all loads and rpms.
    Kclv on 92 - 28, 87 - 25.

With the KDMAX-Pro tune you can run regular or premium or mid grade fuel. It will adjust to whatever is in the tank. We hav tested each one. I’ve watched the KCLV adjust from one fuel to another.

These trucks love premium fuel. They get a little better mileage on premium and run really good on premium. But when I ran 87, I did not have any problems. Power was still there.
