Yeah, I've debated riding before work since I am a morning person. I ride solo more often than not, and my local trail system is littered with mountain lions. Myself and a few buddies have encountered a few at various distances in the last 5 years, and its a little spooky to be riding alone in the dark knowing that.

Ha. I'm in my late 30s now. Racing since I was 13. Trust me when I say this has been a long process. Ha

I can appreciate that as well. I've had a sunrise run in with a mountain lion and a grizzly when I lived in Alberta. Very cool to see them but incredibly unnerving. Especially mountain lions.

Manitoba I might spook a grouse out of the bushes. Ha. Thats about as scary as it gets.

Well I'm in the same age range so that doesn't help me feel any better. haha! I didn't grow up with any kind of racing background though (and have never raced). That probably has a lot to do with it because I know some racers who are very similar. I'm more of a last minute decide to go riding, scrounge stuff up and throw it in the truck and go. Still pretty quick out the door, just not prepared beforehand.

Any of you have experience with Poseidon? They have a gravel bike (Redwood) that looks like it will fit the bill perfectly - allows a wide tire and standard components that are up gradable. Probably get a separate set of rims to handle road tires and swap out depending on what the day holds.

yeah. that's UT for you though. Doesn't feel like a ride if it's been less than 500. hah! I mean, a single loop on the south side of corner canyon on the gravity logic trails and it's like < 4 miles but 500+ vert. Only a single ride. We're really spoiled with the mountains here.

My Pipedream build with a 52T big ring and a 30T oval F's up Puke Hill. But when I bring my Enduro bike...you def notice the extra 10 pounds and suspension efficiency losses.

Have an extra 2 weeks of vacation this year as a 5 year bonus. Thinking of hitting BC in July (last week of the month maybe?) for a week once the snow melts off since Whistmas is normally Late June. I have some family in Yakima and also up by Marysville/Bellingham so those are free couches to crash on along the way. Nine days with the weekends bookended seems like a lot but really isn't once you start doing the daily itineraries. Basically a day in each stop. I'm sorta on the fence about picking a more specific spot like Kelowna/Kamloops and just pounding that region for a week instead, but always wanted to hit the BC gravity parks.

Any comments / alternate ideas vs the places marked on the map?

Look into Invermere and Panorama as well. Well worth a visit especially if you're already in the area.

Im currently between the Redwood and X (both drop bar). I'm not planning on riding single track (have my full suspension for that) so not sure I need the ability to put a full MTB tire on, and the X will accommodate up to a 1.9" tire if needed. Will let you know when I have my accountant (cough wife) approve of my expenses.

Officially blocked out a long weekend on my work calendar for Fears Tears and Beers in Ely, NV this year. Missed it the last 2 years, but I'm going again. So much fun! You get to ride a bike through a casino and past a brothel, what's not to love? @ginseng27 wanna tag along?

If you go the "1 day in each spot" route... There's a handful of really good trails around McCall, ID. You could make a short detour north of Boise for a day and then continue west to get back on 84. Alternatively, you could cut west sooner and go to Bend, OR before heading north to Yakima. Happy to provide specific trails and camping spots if you're interested.

oh yeah. my enduro bike struggles up puke hill. and mys hort travel just zips right up. it's very interesting to see the difference. I can't imagine a hardtail doing that. let alone a gravel bike. I could probably crush it on a gravel bike. but then I'd have to do the downhill on it and that's a little bit of a terrifying prospect.

um....100% in. I cant get the registration to work though? it looks liek they haven't set up the 2022 one yet? I have a group of riders who are also totally in for going. would be a riot!
