It’s upsetting that electric will take off soon because I’ve been young and poor and haven’t had a chance to do a lot of things with traditional ICE vehicles. And the hobby will only get more expensive.

so we have our model coming in today to work in the photo studio, but she's stuck an hour away cause the battery in her Range Rover died and she's telling me no one in the building she lives in can find the battery to jump it lol.

Now, I've never really been around a new Range Rover before. But shouldn't the battery be...oh I dunno...under the hood..?

Interesting. Well that's probably why no one can find it. I'll text it over to her

This is why being a mechanic has such high job security.

Particularly if you work on Range Rovers, some of the stuff I hear about the cost of working on them is absolutely nuts. This same girl told me a few months ago that she paid almost $5k just to have the front/rear disc brakes serviced on the same car. Wtf.

There is a shop here that exclusively worked on Rovers. So last month at an off-road gathering they were strictly doing full restores on Rovers imported from European countries with Left-hand drive. No more mechanical repair jobs. If I had an LR I would not be happy about that.

Beyond 2004 they're all electrical nightmares and the drive-trains are BMW or Jaguar which are both terrible from a longevity standpoint.

I know someone who paid about that same amount for brakes on a VW. It's a good profession if you can live with fucking people over on a daily basis.

I don't tend to have much sympathy for those that pay that kind of service prices on brand new Rovers and BMWs, Mercedes, etc. Its well known how much more expensive they are to own/maintain and people still buy them because appearance is so important to them.

For example, I know this model chick makes good money (just based on what our company pays her alone, never mind her other gigs) but still...the cost of owning that RR is probably several thousand a year alone at least. But the appearance is worth it I guess.

Of course. Some people love living the luxurious façade and gladly pay whatever.

That's what backyard go karts are for! My small engines are only just now getting fuel injection lol.. you can learn and tinker with all sorts of traditional ICE technology if you cool with only having 1 to 3 cylinders

ICE will never go away and it won't be long till they back pedal from all Electric. It just needs to hit enough important people in the wallet

I've have built quite a few off-yard karts and pieces of power equipment that run off fuel I made myself from recycled plastic. As well as ones that run off CNG I've made from fermenting animal shit and yard waste
