Compass is blank on the gauge screen

I've got a 2019 TRD OR with a tech package. Bought it used.

The previous owner had some cheap Chinese head unit in there. I swapped it for a more basic but reliable Sony.

I just noticed today that the gauge display should show a compass on tab #2 and music info on tab #3. Both are blank.

Anyone know if this is because of the head unit swap? Or what the issue is? There's also no compass in the rear view mirror, but I think that's by design. Some packages had it and I think this one just wasn't one of them.

 

The prior owner and you removed the OEM Head Unit and you wonder why the Taco doesn't have the feature that "might" be there?



Aftermarket has the correct link (harness) to the Taco?

 

well yeah, I aknowlege that the reason might be pretty obvious, but I wanted to make sure. After all, I’m not talking about features missing from the headunit but features missing from the gauge cluster display.

all the harnesses are right. I’m not shocked that the head unit isn’t communicating the track info. I asked a pro installer and he said most don’t. So no surprise there (and not a big deal.)

But the compass is a little confusing. Like, did the compass live in the oem headunit? And if this model didn’t have a nav package, why would there be a tab on the gauge cluster for it? It shouldn’t just be a blank tab.

im sure the likely answer is “the truck has (had) nav, the compass comes from the head unit and now that it’s gone there’s no compass readout being sent to the gauge cluster display.” But I was just hoping to hear some certainty from another member.

 

The tab will eventually go away and you wont even be able to select that screen. But yes all that stuff is run through the radio.

 

I'm pretty sure those 2 features only sync with the OEM head unit. I haven't swapped mine out but if theyre not working it would make sense if you have an aftermarket head unit.

There rear view mirror compass come from the HU also?

 

No, that one has its own compass module.

The radio feeds the cluster a few things. Compass (tied to GPS), turn by turn directions, speed limit signs, and song info.

 

Would a Maestro re-introduce that feature?

 

No. Aftermarket radios dont output gps info generally.
