They are for an extruder. I’ll never see them again after they leave the shop.

Did the weld shop xray the welds? I wonder if there was porosity between the root and the final pass?

Late reaction to adjusting to the normal temperatures after being in the land of the ORBs!

When I needed to leave my comfort zone below freezing and go to some really hot place for a few days I felt like that coming home..

It only seemed to happen after about 4 days years later my Doctor gave me a bunch of big long medical words trying to explain to sum it up She said " your just weird"

Why just a few and not all of them??

on those that cracked something different was added to the mix finding just what might be very expensive unless you have a friend that can do that work gratis

More and More I have seen and heard Raw material labeled wrong Which changes the complete Process

The filler material is labeled wrong

It would not be the first time tig rods were placed back in the wrong container by a helper by mistake .

The crack looks to be in the middle of the weld says the base material is cooling faster then the filler.

I wonder if the handling or shipping caused the cracks that were not detected to just expand !!

Were the pieces hand delivered to the weld shop by the Boss Man or shipped.

Thinking about this my Coffee went Cold!

Really Curious How this plays out Good Luck!!!

I wouldn't expect 1045 to behave this way, but it feels to me like a pre-heat/annealing issue, due to the disparity in material sizes. I would be inclined to try heating them more, and than let them cool in either a lime or sand bath if you don't have access to an annealing oven.

Out of curiosity, what did you use for filler?

I was wondering about mis-labeled material, but if that were the case, I'd expect it to be noticed when some pieces didn't weld/machine the same as others...

Switched to 309 stainless and I think that's what the other shop used as well.

I forget what kind of prep for the weld? I'm asking a big honking 37.5° chamfer on both pieces?

I gotta agree it seems a Preheat or post cooling issue. If all raw materials are correct .

Something was different about the cracked pieces did they cool in a lower temperature then the others?

Very few Shops are spoiled by being climate controlled did the cracked pieces end up on the floor in the corner out of the way

Another off the wall thought a major load on the Power Grid could drop the output of the welding machine but most welders would just ramp the output up with the remote.

Certified under what code of all the many codes ? ASME section IX ??

Seen both stationary & portable outfits. Induction coils, monitors up the wazoo, all the gear at a Nuke like project once. Lotsa stationary at the aircraft parts manufacturers here. Think is under the ASTM umbrella up here. Not sure in the US.

I’m not sure about any of what you ask since the other shop did the welding. All I know is we are trying to fix them :D

Actually they are trying to fix them, boss took them back.
