I have to go take some measurements on vendor supplied parts, bearing sleeve and bushing they're saying is not the correct clearance. When I get back I want to ask one of our welder guys what he thinks.

Kinda gives a Whole New Meanin to Bitin’ the Billet.

 

It’s a cooling jacket, it’s hollow in the center with a small stop to make the coolant flow in and out. If that makes sense.

Yeah I understand what you’re saying and asking, just frustrating for us since we did everything we could to ensure they were right before going to chrome.

Only consolation is you caught it before it hit the field instead of punting it out the door & callin’ ‘er good like offshore outfits. Matter of pride ‘n workmanship to boot.

Ah, so no root; just filler. I wonder if someone opened a garage door and blew the gas shield away while the welder was going over those spots?

 

They looked great when they came back from welding. No holes or anything.

 

No use trying dye then.

 

Don’t know that it would have shown anything. They looked good, even after we turned the weld smooth on the lathe and aired em up with 120 psi.

 

Welder dude says preheat has much to do with it and more of a chamfer for filler wouldn't hurt either.

I told him I think the weld shop did preheat them.

This stuff makes me Crazy. I’m the guy thowin’ out rods & heatin’ new ones. Phoning up manufacturers for verification of materials provided. Then the wheels upstairs start turnin....

 

Just Forrest service trails that lead to fly fishing accesses. Usually going solo, so don't want to get in over my head, so to speak.

I wonder if turning them added in stress that only showed up after it went to get chromed?
