Damn! I still can't wrap my head around an 18 hour non-stop drive. The longest I was ever in a vehicle was about 14 hours from Baltimore to central Florida. However, I was only 17, high on life, and two of us shared the driving, in a 1st gen Tercel. Talk about miserable. I actually hinted towards flying home instead but felt guilty leaving a buddy to deal by himself. A little later in life, as bikers, we drove to Myrtle Beach. It was 6 of us in a Dodge conversion van with a tv and vcr installed. We took turns so it made the 10 hr drive sooo much easier. Even more recently, my boy @pdenajim Jim and I drove up to someplace in Pa to drop off my Pro wheel/tire setup to a young member stationed in upstate Pa. I think that was a 6 hour round trip day. When I was younger, I use to think I would ultimately get a job as a trucker. Now I don't even like driving down to get the mail.

I'm so glad the trips I take now are filled with friendly faces from the forum or they just simply wouldn't happen.

It took you 6 hrs to get to your own bbq meet a few years ago and almost that for you to get to Dave’s cabin .

At least I took the chili I said I was bringing to Dave's. So many of us suffered eating half a menu that day because of the missing items, right @Tonymontana Tony? What did the chip guy forget to bring?

And I am blaming @Russty__ @RedDeadTaco and @Majora (or "The Drews" as Russ calls them LOL) for being late. Those guys are like a bunch of old ladies and the only place we didn't stop was to look for antiques!!!

Stolen from a FB page called MD Severe Weather Alert-
    Extreme Cold Weather Warning:
The next couple of weeks are projected to see highs struggle to get above freezing, dipping into single digits over night coming this Saturday. There will be days off and on like today, struggling to approach 25°F and when you have highs consistently well below freezing, the rules tend to change about how life works.
Prepare your homes and vehicles for a stretch of extremely cold weather. - - Most important tip... Make sure to keep extra warm clothes in the vehicle. If you get stranded on the side of 95 and have to wait 2 hours or more for a tow truck, you'll thank me.
    - In the home/business category, if there is a power outage pipes could freeze and bust in hours, especially overnight. Have a plan to keep warm without power and remember even a brief power outage can do damage to plumbing in temps we will be seeing.

    - If power is lost and you must vacate to stay warm, don't forget to turn off the main water supply and run the pressure out of the pipes to help keep damage from freezing to a minimum. Toilet tanks and bowls will bust into pieces if water is allowed to freeze solid in them.
5 extra minutes of hassle can save thousands of dollars in damage afterwards!
    - Salting slows or even stops effectively working around 17°F and colder, so black ice is possible even on treated surfaces overnight when temps bottom out and no solar energy to keep things working. Be extra careful walking to and from the vehicles in the dark when it's this cold! Refreezing can be a serious danger in these temps.

Just some tips from experience, you don't want to learn these the hard way!!!

I had to post this as it's been quite some time since we've had a stretch of extreme cold, and many new to the region and younger homeowners may not realize it can get this cold in MD or what it means when it does. The longer temps stay below freezing the more problematic it can be in a region that doesn't regularly experience it.
Some other side effects that can be seen are water main breaks. Last big cold spell it seemed like York Rd was one long water main break from Hunt Valley to the city! You'll see them pop up a over the city with detours and closures snarling traffic all over the region too.

Concrete sidewalks and driveways are often another casualty, due to water finding it's way under during the day from snow melting in the Sun, then a good hard single digit overnight freeze jacks them all up with the process repeating over days, leaving even sections of road like Route 40 all uneven and can even cause accidents.

Car batteries on the edge of failure, older, or haven't been properly maintained will fail to start your car after a single digit night. If your car battery is original or hasn't been changed in more than 4-5 years, have it tested at least or just get a new one now. It's cheaper than a towing bill to get it done while missing work to do it!
I hope this helps someone as it's the most I can offer right now.
    —————
None of the above are my own words.
