Is this the new norm for '22 DCSB Tacos?

I picked up my latest Taco back in late November '22. Yesterday I gave her her first full bath (what non-Taco owners call a car wash). When I was washing the roof, I had noticed a good 3/16" gap on the roof line weather seals near the back. Absolutely shocked to see this!! I have had Tacos for the past 15+ years and this is the first time I am seeing this in the roof line weather stripping. Started to wonder how water has entered through this gap when I was driving (city/highway) in the rain.

Today, I took the truck into the shop to see about getting the issue resolved. I for one, think this is a manufacturer's defect. The dealer's service manager didn't even know that this is truely an issue or it is a defect. They checked what few new '22 Tacos they had on the lot and found that most had no gap but one actually did have a gap. He told me that he has to create a report to send to HQ to verify this shortcoming or new norm. He thinks that he could pull the strips together but I am shaking my head on that one. Can't rob Peter to pay Paul.

To all you new '22 DCSB Taco owners, do you have a gap between your two weather seal strips on your roof?

 

The surface underneath is sealed so it’s nothing to really worry about.

It's just metal under there, the rubber is for appearance not weather stripping/sealant.

 

It was the normal in 2016 . They either get removed for the factory roof rack or cut for an aftermarket one .

You're gonna drill holes in it or cut that shit up when you add a roof rack anyway.

 

Measure it in the summer. Bet it closes up. It is just a filler strip.

When installing OEM roof rack, those strips have to come out. Then the rack covers those channels, but it’s definitely not water tight. I wouldn’t worry about that small gap man.

You’re the 2nd guy to start up a thread about this. Don’t fret too much. It’s normal, especially in cold weather.

Take about a foot out in each direction and stretch it a little as you put it back in. You'll get it dress right dress in no time.

I think Seinfeld blamed it on cold water.

 

Like others said… that doesn’t seal anything, so yes, that’s the norm. I pulled mine up to tuck the vinyl wrap under it and pushed it back in the channel once done.

 

Check the paint on the rocker panels.
