That's cool. The beauty is in the setup and some make use of the simplest rigs and components, but all their bang goes into the actual workspaces. Like driving sim builds. I'd love to setup a dedicated driving simulator that gives that "real world" experience.

I just might and what do you use for the 8tb m.2 for? That sure is a lot of space, but seems like you're filling it up

I started looking into that when I built this rig. My attention span is limited and it was basically like this for me:

240 is worth it. Buttery smooth. You can tell. I have a Samsung G7 but I'm waiting for the new QD-OLED Alienware is dropping in March. Game changing technology.

If anyone didn't catch the CES highlights basically all our LED monitors are going to look like shit in about two months. QD-OLED promises better colours, no smearing at all, pure blacks, and long lifespan without burn in.

Apex and Battlefield big time. Rocket League and CS:Go. I drive mine at 1440P with a 3080Ti. I'd say it's only worth it if you're looking at a new monitor anyway. If you're happy now dont jump.

Or wait two months for this like me. Alienware is bringing a monitor out with this tech in March.

I got to 144Hz with an Acer g-synch monitor not terribly long ago. It's a huge difference over my other two BenQ 60Hz monitors. I don't think the human eye can really tell the difference above that unless you are younger with good eyes. Entirely possible that is just me and my aging eyes, but there are only so many things a human brain can process in 1 second.

Probably best to wait then, either buy the new stuff or pick up the old stuff if it gets real cheap.

There's lots of studies showing differences up to 360 Hz now, though the biggest jump is between 60-144hz. The way it works is how many clean frames display during a quick motion. The more frames the more natural the motion and the easier it is to hit a shot. Life isnt in frames after all.

In seriousness, I'm not trying to win any game tournaments and not playing e-sports or anything, but some guys and gals on here may be. For the money 144Hz with g-synch seems to be the sweet spot for me. The not so sweet spot seems to be adaptive synch and free-synch. I've not found a conclusive study of the technologies relative to each other, though. Maybe you know more. I am interested in how those technologies compare to g-sync and did I waste a shit ton of money buying g-sync...

G-sync is for screen tearing. It does nothing else but prevent that. It is not a waste but it's a given any high frequency panel should have it enabled.

Hello fellow nerds :) I'm hoping to jump into a PC build sometime within the next year and have nearly zero experience/knowledge with PC's outside of "normal day to day using a computer at work." I have a ton of research to do, and no idea what my options even are yet, but wanted to drop in this thread to say hi and look for some inspiration along the way. I plan to build primarily for gaming (COD/Warzone, Halo, etc), and music production on very rare occasions. I know it'll take some time to figure out what I want/need, but to get a rough idea and to get the ball rolling in the months to come, how much money do PC builders typically put into a first build? I understand you can spend as little or as much as you want, but whats average?
