Imo, nothing sounds as bad as a 4 cylinder sports car with a large fart can.

I was considering the TRD catback, because I think the factory exhaust is a little too grainy. I'd prefer a deeper mellower tone.

You won’t be disappointed with the sound. My buddy has it and it’s just a hair quieter than my borla, both have similar tone.

    Just don’t get MBRP, haha.

I wish there was a way to make my 2017 OR sound as good as my 05 XR did. It just had the URD catless y pipe, and catback on it. I think I gutted the cats on the headers, but I can't remember. This is like 12 years ago haha.

The problem with the 2GR has more to do with it being a 60° V than anything else. If it were a 90° V it might have a chance of sounding deep because the exhaust pulses are spread out. But the way 60° Vs fire puts the exhaust pulses close together. The lack of space between the pulses is what gives it the buzzy, droning sound.

But 90° V6s are inherently unbalanced and require more space. So, like most manufacturers, Toyota went for the refinement and packaging that a 60° block offers.

The only exhaust I've heard on these trucks that doesn't sound like crap:

Sounds better than stock, almost quieter because it's actually deeper and not some wanna be v8 setup that ends up sounding like an early year Fast & Furious fart can. I have no problem with exhaust when it's done right, even on 4 cylinder engines. But the Tacoma is not something that sounds good with these setups that most people seem to go for. If you actually want something deeper and throatier without being obnoxious, a true dump and turn down setup is the way to go.

I’m very happy with my TRD Performance cat back upgrade. Added a TRD Airflow Accelerator, Air filter, and CVC tune. Runs and sounds great!

I have the borla pro xs muffler and it sounds great in start up. Low and growling. Low rpm is nice but towards the higher rpm’s it gets a little loud. After getting bigger tires then stock (285/75/16) the drone went away (1,800-2,400 rpm). So nice it’s great on the freeway at cruising speeds.

I put the magnaflow off road cat back on my truck in 2018 as a replacement to the rusted through OEM exhaust. Magnaflow was $300 compared to $650 for OEM or $250 to repair exhaust. Seemed like a great deal and I always liked magnaflow.

Is it loud? Yep. Loud on start up and loud drone on the highway.

But it sounds good, right? No, not really. It has its moments but the highway drone is significant.

To be fair, I knew this could happen. The noise isn't unbearable but I wouldn't buy it again. It makes the truck sound "old" which, as a 2007, is kinda old. I guess I saved $350.

I'm a fan of a low rumble from a v8. As another member said, I'd rather not hear any exhaust from a v6.

If you're into off roading it could be worth it because the exhaust is tucked up out the way which is cool.

Geez, i wanted to put a cat's back magnaflow system on my 4.7 tundra but it was crazy expensive. Ended up with a flowmaster complete dual system, cats included that were less after i collected a rebate check from them. $300 for the magnaflow is a great price for a 6 cylinder.

I agree to a point. My neighbor has a new Skyline GTR R35 and the exhaust he has on it sounds like sex to my ears.

Im still trying to figure out how he paid for a 100k+ car and why he just parks it outside when he has a garage lol.

I like my Flowmaster Super 44. Inexpensive and sounds the lowest and most “truck-like” out of all I’ve tried. It gets better as the exhaust gets hotter too. The Magnaflow is better quality as far as the finish.

I’m tuned and performance actually shows improvement with the Flowmaster by a little. I don’t have any drone, the wife likes it, and it put my 4 yr old right to sleep when cruising

    soundwise, Borla is the beast.

too bad is Borla only has the single side exit for Double Cab + 6' Bed model.....

I really want the URD y pipes… With the conversion, shipping and duties it would cost like a grand here but I’m still willing to buy it.

Any stone on highway? Any CEL? Thanks

Outside of the trd exhaust.....so far every aftermarket system for these 6's sound like crap. You just can't make a 6 thump like an 8.
