How long did you have to wait for your factory 2022 order/request/whatever it is called?

I think it is just slightly above the old MSRP or it's the same. I would have to go check. I ordered an MGM so I see your point if I wanted a Lunar Rock. The updates were more like they are trying, but they also knew I wasn't in a big hurry. Would I have liked it sooner, yes. But the delay gave me enough time to save to pay for it at once and collect some hard to get aftermarket parts. I don't have an issue with the dealership because of the situation I was in, but for most people I can see it would be a problem.

 

Actually, it could very well be, and most likely he is in a large market with a massive list.

Some toyota dears around Denver have 15 to 20 people waitlists. I can't imagine the wait in a market like LA??????

A smaller dealer like Laramie wyoming might only get 2 or 3 PRO's a year, but have no list, so you are number 1, but you have to find the right mix. Regionally colorado gets more trucks allocated then most markets.

 

I had a very large dealership tell me today that they were only allocated one PRO and it was already presold at $2000 markup. Literally none of that makes sense, as they typically are allocated whatever they want, and I’ve NEVER seen them do a presale on any vehicle ever in 28 years of dealing with them, and to presell with the markup doesn’t make any sense when other dealerships in the area are taking deposits with no markup at all. It just seemed weird. But if any of that is true…. then it means there is zero chance I am getting my October deposit and pre-order from their much much smaller competitor here in town. I don’t have a temporary VIN or anything else either. Just a receipt for my deposit listing a 2022 TRD Pro.

 

Just found this thread. I placed a $500 deposit in July for the 2022 trd pro electric lime, was I supposed to receive a temporary Vin? The salesman called me last week saying that they will start building on the first week of February (forgot what day). But nothing about a temporary Vin.

 

Same here. Never gotten anything, but an offer to switch to a black trail package last week. Seems that every dealership is running their own show. It feels like even the manufacturers are creating pressure to eliminate dealerships by undermining them to some degree in order to push for direct order law change. Ford has clearly been working at it. Their dealerships are out of control though and need reigning in. If I’m going to pay full MSRP, I’d rather custom order directly from Toyota well in advance and pay cash.

 

I can confirm that it can be done. I intercepted an allocation on a 2021 TRDOR DCSB 6 MT with premium and advanced technology packages — but it was in silver and I wanted Barcelona Red Metallic — and I wanted the OEM tonneau. The dealer put in for the color change first and it took. Then put in for the tonneau and it took. I put my deposit down on 9/21/20 and took delivery 12/11/20.

 

It makes sense and they'll make more margin while cutting out the dealer. When buyers are begging for vehicles and the dealer just "takes the order" and really doesn't sell anything it makes even more sense.

 

Relax bud. Your PRO you put a deposit on hasn't even started production. A temporary vin would be impossible at this point. A lot of people think they understand allocation, but get many details wrong.

Toyota has a multi step allocation process, which occurs every 2 months at the regional level, and every two weeks at the delear level.

So ANY Toyota dealer who claims they "know their 2022 allocation " today is a complete liar. They might know their first allocation of 2022, for that 2 week cycle, but that's it.

 

Had a deposit down for an order on an Army Green Trail Edition, it's been a few months with no allocations at my dealer. I saw they had an army green TRD Sport coming in and decided to go for that, and it was cheaper anyway. I'll be adding the TRD lift kit, Bronze TRD wheels and some bigger tires to compensate for what I wanted on the trial edition. Only thing I'll really be missing is the rear locker, which I think I can live without.

Supposed to arrive at the dealer Feb 8th!

 

Just a thought, I'm actually upgrading my perfectly good 07 sport to a PRO. Only because it doesn't have the locker. I love my sport but at the end of the day not having a locker is kinda like having a half cooked turkey

 

I agree with you 100% if I was doing some harder trails, however I will almost never do anything that will require a rear locker. My Silverado didn't have one either, and I was always fine with the light trails I did. I also always go with friends so I can get pulled out if needed haha.

 

I got mixed responses and information from the dealers I spoke to. I did put a deposit down for a vehicle in hopes of getting close to what I want. I've decided that if it can't be met, I'll just continue to drive what I have. I refuse to allow a manufacturer or dealer basically strongarm me into over paying or taking a model with/without what I want.

 

Do you have to call the manufacturer directly? I called Toyota and they told me they wouldn’t order one. To look throughout the country to find one to fit my needs

 

I did almost the same. After waiting for a TRD OR for 6 mo, ended up with a Sport with Advance Tech, instead of regular Tech package.
If you need a locker down the road, can always put an an ARB air locker. More robust than TRD electric one anyways.

 

Hey guys just a word of warning on the factory Tonneau cover, it a POS, we got one on our 17' and they're still the same. There is no way to adjust it to close tighter, there was a gap between the cover and the top of the tailgate so not very secure and it would flop around driving down the road. The overal plastic isn't very solid either, we ended up selling ours 2 months after we got it.

 

Here here! I’m going to take my 4Runner to a few different shops for a quote to get the front bumper replaced and a few other things. The funny thing is… this 2008 4Runner, with less than 100,000 miles on it is more capable in almost every way than the current Tacoma and the current 4Runner. But I’m all hung up on getting a new one because I got a messed up bumper. It doesn’t quite make sense, does it? I can’t get the beautifully smooth 4.7 liter V8 with full time all wheel drive and the amazing Torsen diff with center locker on either the Tacoma or 4Runner. But if I could…. I would probably buy a new one every three years just to support Toyota for keeping this thing advancing. Now it feels like they’ve built an extremely beautiful version of both, but they are all outfitted by an accountant who is looking at the oldest parts bins first. Don’t get me wrong. I’d buy a Tacoma tomorrow if available, but you can be sure that my 4Runner will still be in the driveway for as long as possible.

 

Yeah, it's been fascinating to learn more about this stuff. From like a business enthusiast and supply chain perspective. For instance, my Trail said "order date 10/21", meaning I assume it got allocated to GST at the time, but it didn't get dealer allocated until 1-7-22.

 

I think for the overwhelming majority of people, myself included, who are using this as their main vehicle, not a trail rig, so only some light to medium duty trailing, a locker is a luxury but not necessary. I know there are a ton of serious off roaders on here but if most were honest with themselves...they probably don't need it. However, I am not going to complain that I have it on my incoming Trail. Who knows, it may encourage me to do more because I have the confidence due to the truck's capabilities.

So Kev, sounds like you were honest with yourself, and at the end of the day you will have a truck now in the color you want!

 

I don't hard 4wheel anymore as I got tired of tearing up my rigs, BUT it was a must that I had the locker as I have used it a few times to get unstuck in snow and mud and without it I would have had a BAD day. I seriously considered the TRD Sport but the lack of the locker kept me from getting it.

If you go to this site, at least for Gulf States, you can see all inventory that's incoming into their region. Then, feasibly you can request a quote. I see my exact Trail edition in their system (sorry guys, it's sold!). Just "X" out when it asks to input a zip.

This seems like it would be an easier way than just searching dealer websites. Who knows. Just thought I'd share.
