In the end, I didn't end up getting that Landcruiser.

The more I thought about it, the more I figured I didn't want a 'project' and instead, something that was turn-key.

Thanks for talking on the phone with me and helping me do a once over; mechanically it looked, ran, and sounded great. All things checked out with the exception of the wire wrap slowly failing above the EGR.

You reminded me the value of my rig, saying I should be asking for more. I think that's what made me take another look at mine, and see less value in the LC with its not-so-great interior. What really bugged me most were the many wires all over the place for the lights and other odds and ends.

Oh I definitely wouldn’t travel to Northern Utah for a vehicle, too salty. The only advantage you might have to going out of state is price, but LC so.

 

Not sure I should post my first ever MIG weld..

Big problem is I can't see my pieces when the hood darkens and I'm having to work in very confined space. @Kwikvette do you recommend some type of light or will any portable LED do?

And my update:


- Light fixture will come out (already cut the electrical)
- Each quadrant will have a little accent light in it
- Backs of each column need to be completed
- White paint needs another coat

Before I forget, here's the non-Limited switch so you can see the difference!

 

So, I have an issue where my confined space at school keeps me from getting any light on what I'm working on.

At work it's better, and I do have a bright fluorescent light that sits feet above me, but in out-of-position welding it's useless.

So I run a shade 9 running MIG, and have learned where to hold my torch before I fire her up. I don't even have to think twice about it; with enough time you won't either. Once that arc strikes, it lights up my piece enough to not need ambient lighting.

But yeah when I first started MIG, I too had that issue but it was really only when I first struck my arc.

Well its safe to say the people that fixed this place up were really cheap and they probably got the LVP on clearance from somewhere.

Maybe one day Ill think about removing the LVP and refinishing the wood. Theres definitely enough there to sand away some pretty bad imperfections.

with work/school/house it's probably not the best time for a project even if it only needs little updates here and there

I know this is a feature on newer cars, but didn't expect it on our 4Runner.

 

My 84 has that. Been a 4unner feature from the start.

 

Did you not know this? My grandmas 90 runner had that too, it's actually how you opened it

 

I did not!

I at one point, tried it from the door locks.

Nothing happened so I never thought to try it on the hatch.

Today I found out by accident as I held it in the unlock position more than a split second. I saw the window move slightly the way new cars do without the frame of the door extending over the glass. So when it moved, I held it in the unlock position and BAM, it started rolling down

 

Feel like a klutz not knowing this

But really it would've maybe helped once or twice while camping only.

Remainder of the time, I have that sunshade cover pulled over to hide my stuff.

 

gotta roll down the glass on the fold down tailgate runners to open the gate, yea?
