For a difference of only 2k this is a no-brainer IMO.

Different brakes on OR as well, not that it matters much.

I could "afford" any truck, any trim that I want. This line of thought is irritating. I choose not to spend over a certain amount on vehicles. I didn't LOVE spending over 30k on this one. I wanted a "basic" truck and prefer the look sans stick-on fender flares.

The OR is an excellent value proposition. The options included would be far far more than $2000 if you wanted to upgrade parts in the future.

I’ve only Needed to use my locker 3 or 4 times in 7 years but I was very glad to have it.

You’ll be happy with either. If you get the sr5 and you aren’t happen then get front and rear lockers. Then you’ll be happy

I absolutely love my SR5. I considered the OR, but wasn't convinced it was the way to go. To me, it was not worth the extra $$. And I really wanted a key with the automatic.

I have a Sport, wanted an SR5 but the upgraded features I do like. Nothing wrong with either, I won't ever use a locker because I do a little beach driving and maybe a trail but thats it for my off roading these days. Never needed one or cared to have one because I know my limits and how far I want to push them, plus you can only use them in 4low which is nice but not for my needs. My neighbor has a 2016 DCLB which is what sold me on the SR5, great truck but the Wife pushed me on the Sport which I'm happy about because I have upgraded the tires, wheels, leather heated seats, homelink mirror, 5100s, and more. Sitting @20k miles on it and its looks like new! I would hate to repair the crawl control when and if it breaks years down the road, just a thought. I say SR5 as they get respect and it keeps things simple. My neighbor's SR5 is a DCLB with @10k miles on it and the stock looking SR5 looks damn good!

I only know of one so far but not sure on the particular info as this was in 2016 when my neighbor got the SR5. He is a retired service writer at the dealership and was telling me this. Got me thinking and I didn't want to deal with it down the road. Not hating on the Off Road at all, just don't care for the CC or pay for it when I know I won't use it.

If the only difference in price is 2k, then the OR is well worth it. The larger front and rear axles of the OR alone are worth the price difference(automatic). Think of the OR as a TRD Pro, without the pro wheels and fox shocks. That's it. Oh and the worthless aluminum pro front skid plate.

Snag the OR. the resale value alone will be worth it.

Crawl Control and rear Locker are a game changer if your stuck. None of these are on the Sport, so your on the right path, as far as upgrading.

The interior comforts are much improved too, compared to the SR5.

Personally, I wouldn't knock the SR5, as it's a great truck as it stands. It all comes down to wanting more comfort creatures, and options. Personally I liked my OR suspension, but wanted a lift, so I went from a Bilstein 4600 to a 5100 with 2" lift.

Resale value on all Taco's are great, but I'm glad I got the OR.

A buddy of mine was hell bent buying the trd or claiming all the goodies it had vs the sr5...now he owns a new nissan after the trd pissed him off to no end. I love my sr5, it meets all my needs. I've had sr5's since the 80's, they been ultra reliable over the long haul.

Honestly, I think that if you don't intentionally off-road there's no sense in spending the extra. If you do, it's well worth the money unless you plan on completely redoing the truck into a rock crawler or something.

Also, the ~$2k difference, most of the OR trucks you find on the lots will be significantly optioned up.

Now, if you do intend to offroad, the shocks and locker are definitely worth it. If I were buying today, I'd go OR.

Regardless, good luck with pricing. I'm in the Denver area and checked cars.com out of curiosity..... there were 3 new Tacomas listed. KBB has the high private value for my truck about ~$1500 less than I paid new and 113k miles ago. Crazy times.

Same here my friend... about to take mine off and do homegrown paint job. Everytime I see them, I wave at the driver.... Not to be nice, but so I can ask them if they want to give em up.
