    Hello,
I’m trying to figure out how to get raw and simple power out of my Tacoma. I’ve been doing research on tuning options and aftermarket ecus. From my research I’ve learned about the “calibration” (OVtune changes it). Does this calibration adjust to the truck or to my driving style? I just want raw acceleration and good shift points. I do not want the truck to adjust to my driving style or anything like that. If the calibration isn’t affected by my driving then I’m fine with it. It’s been really hard to find any info on tuning for the stock ecu. (I would also like shift lock). I have an AT. In the end I’m asking either what tuning to do or aftermarket ecu to install to achieve these needs. Thanks!

    edit:
I basically want to tune my truck such that the throttle responds like a gas pedal connected mechanically to the carburetor like in an old car. If that doesn’t make sense let me know in the comments.

Welcome. If you want real power, you need forced induction and then start modding from there. ECU tuning and bolt-ons etc are not going to give massive returns.

Raw power, you need to remove the whole efi system and install two double barrel carbs.
You might need a chock pull switch for cold starts.

Thanks for responding so quickly. I’m not really trying to increase power, I’m just trying to change throttle response. (My bad for titling thread incorrectly, I’ve changed it)

A pedal commander will do that. Basically it magnifies however far you push the pedal in the signal to the ECU. No different than just pushing the pedal further yourself, but it feels more responsive. Not something I’d personally recommend.

I went from original OEM tune, then added pedal commander, then to TSB tune, then removed pedal commander and went to OVtune beta, then to OVtune 2.0 now KDmax 7.0. KDmax is the best driving so far, and throttle is much more sensitive. Don't waste money on a controller, and get a proper tune (Kdmax isn't the only company doing it, there are a few).

Thanks for the info. Does KDmax offer gear lock in S mode?

A premium performance tune (SFOB) made my throttle response much better.

On a drive by wire vehicle, I don’t think it’s possible to simulate throttle cable. I really do miss that though…

    Yes.

What does that have to do with the engine being “anemic”?

The KDMax tune with sport throttle setting definitely helps with off idle throttle response. And yes, they have an option for true gear lock in S mode, but you will lose ECT function

What is true gear lock and what advantages does it provide? I rarely use my ECT after the KD Max tune will agressive tip. Really do love that throttle response and shift points.

When you put the truck in S mode and select a gear the truck will still downshift to lower gears if necessary but won't shift above the gear you select. With the KDMax gear lock option, it will keep it locked into whatever gear you select until you manually change it.
