Loss MPG with Mobil 1

    I am currantly in this EXACT debate with a friend of mine! I agree with you, BUT he seems to think that as more air and fuel is introduced into the engine, thus more power is created, and it takes the same amount to propel the truck, so the mpg. should be the same. To that I respond, cold air being more dense ALSO creats more drag on the vehicle, thus increaseing fuel consumption. :)

    3 inch suspension lift, 33 inch bfgoodrich mud terrain tires, toytech diff drop, Procomp alloy wheels, hella fog lights, black projector headlights with 8000k HID's, blacked out tail lights, two 12 inch subs, 20% tint, pioneer head unit and speakers
    i use synthetic and dont see a change i mpg. and i range between 13 to 15 mpg.

    Yup. And fluids like in the tranny and pumpkin(s) are colder / thicker until warmup, causing more parasitic drag. And tires run a lower PSI for a while, causing more drag.

    I've been running mobil 1 5w30 since my second oil change so i dont have much of a baseline but my mpgs are good for my truck being lifted and such.

    i agree with you chris, colder, denser air= more fuel required at given RPM to maintain the same AFR so mpgs will go down a bit.

    I use Penzoil Plat... no change. Maybe switch to Mobil 1 or all the same if it's syn?

    I got an extra 4 MPG out of Amsoil on my 1998 Jetta TDI, but that is a turbo diesel engine. I am switching to Amsoil before I go on my holiday road trip - 2800 miles round trip.

    i buy it locally here in south jersey...
    the 25000 miles amsoil 5w-30 for like $10.42 a quart, tax included

    I never notice, my truck has been so bad on fuel lately i dont even check anymore. I used mobil 1 5w30 since new.

    Dont you know M1 is formulated to decrease mpg so you'll buy more Mobil gasoline?

    More likely winter fuel blend & cooler temps.

    Running different oils, of the same weight, dino vs. syn, whatever, your talking tenths in mpg differnences, maybe a little more diff in cold temps where syn flows better.

    my last tank was 14.8mpg and i just switched to mobil 1 too. i dont think it has anything to do with the oil i just assume its crappy winter blend gasoline and 100% city driving on that tank.

    I use that, too. Won't make any difference, at least not enough to be detectable considering all the other factors in a daily drive that could throw it off (temp, wind, your right foot, etc).
