I've had a massive chunk missing from the paint on my rocker panel since I bought the thing. I got it home from the stealership before I noticed it otherwise I would've made them fix it.

Anybody running anything for fire suppression? Its always been in the back of my head thinking about the "what if's". I figure I have enough invested in the truck that I should probably have something on board now. What's a good size extinguisher? How many and what brands are worth it?

I have one mounted to the cage between the driver and passenger seat. Easy access to anyone in the vehicle. Need to get another one or two though mounted in the bed or something. Had to use mine already when tubbing the fire wall lol. That foam under the carpet is super flammable

What size? brand? Prices vary a ton and I'm not sure what the reasoning is.

I started no less than five fires while tubbing. After two of them I had to put my wife on fire duty.

Lol, I had my fiancé under the dash with a squirt bottle doing the same. She was pretty impressed with me that day.

Regarding fire extinguishers, I have none but I should have a couple of these. Pack small and don’t make a mess. They basically starve the fire of oxygen. There’s a few demos on YouTube.

My only issue with them is how long they take to start firing. I'm sure it would be a nice back up but I don't believe they will outperform an actual bottle.

Maybe, but it’s all a trade off. I would rather have something that packs small versus a 20lb honker when the chance of needing it is so low.

Idk man, I have to disagree there a little bit. I look at it as a safety thing. Fires spread stupid fast on vehicles. I would rather have it and not need it than stand there watching my truck burn wishing I had spend a few hundred to potentially save it.

The type of detergent used in a fire is important. A minimum of 5lbs will suppress a vehicle engine fire. The smaller 1-2lb are not sufficient and will only leave you wanting more. Check out the Halotron detergent and as far as a standard of extinguisher Amerex is a solid brand to consider. Go to your local FD and ask them what size and type they recommend (ask a professional). I’ve extinguished 2 vehicle fires successfully which does not in any way make me the professional but I at least understand how much you need to a basic extent. And after assisting someone with a 2lb extinguisher and it didn’t do anything except spend the money on the extinguisher I went and asked folks who fight fires what they recommend. I have (2) 5lb amerex halotron extinguishers mounted in the vehicle within reach. Where that is to you and your vehicle depends on your load out.

I was either going to look at 2 2.5's or 2 5's. So that is some good insight. Big thing here too, if something you did caused a forest fire you are responsible for the costs associated with fighting that fire. A debt you would never be able to pay off. Just too many variables to not have at least one in the truck. Fire is a scary thing that shouldn't ever be taken lightly.

Just be careful if you use an old Halon fire extinguisher. Know someone who went to the hospital after using one after a track day where one was used on a car.

Double up, have a tank in the bed/behind the rear seat and a quick grab element in the front floorboard.
