A lift would not affect transmission, it's the larger tires they would blame since they're heavier and put more strain on the transmission.

they dont automatically void the warranty, it has to be proven that they contributed to the failure of the part

Imo, its too late now to start blaming the lift, and big ass tires. When one does mods that aren't recommended by the manufacture they need to accept some responsibility which seems to be lacking these days.

without knowing what failed its a little too early to place blame on the lift and tires.

Actually depending on how much of a lift it could affect the drive shaft angles, which can cause wear on the U-joints as well as seal and bearing wear on the differential, transfer case, and trans. Also significantly larger tires can change axle ratios to the point they put extra load on the drivetrain. It looks like the OP's lift isn't that drastic to really make a huge difference on drive shaft angles, but the dealer could hang their hat on both those issues to deny the warranty claim.

Holy crap I always forget how boring the 3rd gen forum is.

OP everybody on here is just speculating. No one is going to be able to give you a real answer except Toyota corporate and your dealer. I’d say go through the process and if it’s denied go from there with a good tranny shop for a second opinion.

agreed expect people to act in their own best interest applies to manufacturers. if they can avoid the cost chances are they will

Anytime I had to deal with a warranty issue I would call corporate first. They usually want it looked at by a dealer, but having that call in can work in your favor…sometimes.
That being said, from my experience, they will probably blame the “not genuine Toyota parts” for your issue unfortunately.

Do you have a good relationship with the dealership? Both of my cars are modified, both Toyotas, and I take them to the same dealership. They love it. Never had an issue getting work done. I really think it's up to the hands you've shaken in the past, babies you've kissed, and how many times you've brought in cupcakes or cookies for everyone during your service appointments. It really is little things like this that will make the problems easier to smooth over.

Any more info for us here? Had any 2nd opinions from other shops? How many miles on the truck, ever had fluid level checked/changed (not by Toyota bc its safe to say they'd claim they checked and never actually did), have an aftermarket tune, any other plausible mods giving you these symptoms? Is it only around a certain gear/speed? It'd be a real shame to pay for a new trans and it be something like the trans studder TSB's out there, or anything other than an actual trans problem. Trying to be hopeful for you OP, good luck!

    Stock and staying that way
In my case it is lessons learned. I spent way more modding my Trans Am than I did buying it new. As a result it is now worth less than it would be had I left it stock.

Don’t get me wrong. I’d probably do it again as I had a load of fun, and met most of my friends racing cars. But I also recognize the cost, and am too frugal to keep doing it over and over. I am choosing a more boring goal, like early retirement and travel.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
I have <7000 miles on my TRD OR. Took it in for 2 things. TPMS system shit the bed all of a sudden and second was that I pulled the dome light bulb out and even though I had the switch "off", when I put it back in, it sparked and blew a fuse. The fuse wasn't enough to protect the circuit. Shit design. It fried the dimming functions on my interior lights.

Took it to dealer. First thing out of their yap was No warranty because I put different tires on it over 5000 mile prior (TPMS worked just fine) and no dome light warranty because I hid my Nexar dash cam wire along the front of my headliner and down the A pillar! This is all before they even had any diagnosis of either problem.

    So.....yeah. Call me boring.

Really looking forward to how things play out for the OP.

its standard practice to charge the diagnose fee and if it is a warranty issue that fee is waved along with the cost to fix.
