I've used one of those hammer crimpers for big lugs with good success. Costs under $20 and takes up very little room.

 

I might be able to yeah. I don't have notes on lengths but I want to do it to Igor anyways as one power wire broke and I need to redo it. Depends i guess on when you need them.

yeah that sounds like just no power anywhere. Id still check the ignition switch though to be sure. Could be that.

Could use that in a vice too if you wanted to make sure it was a good compression depending on the vice you have.

 

Do you want a set? I use the shit out of my hydro crimper.

 

A hydraulic crimper is a nice tool to have and definitely not a one-time use tool. Your friends will make great use of it.

And you can use it when you add a 2nd battery.

 

can use it on all the fixer uppers id imagine for various things.

 

It's a tool that gets endless use in the shop, I've recabled 5 different cars and three tacomas, countless winch setups... Etc. It's a delightful tool.

 

is that a power cable over the radiator? Laaaaaammmmme

I always like putting cables in front of the radiator up under the core support. Much nicer looking and protected...plus out of the way of the radiator when it comes out

It went to the winch power switch and then to the contactor which was behind the airbox. Kept the line shorter and away from things, it was safely tethered and when unclipped from it's loops easily fell back to take out the shroud and rad. And it's plenty protected under the hood

Your or Zane can name a price. Just need to replace the originals, nothing fancy.

No power anywhere, but hold the key in the start position a couple seconds and it all comes to life. It's a bad ground or bad wires.

Between you and Monte, if you're interested we can talk price.

That's the lens I'm looking through, folks here already got them and have the know how to make them.

If you want a set I'll make you a set for cost of materials. Do you want 4ga or 2ga. Cables included when I make sets are Starter, Alternator, OEM fuse block, block ground, fender ground.

 

Yes. What's oem wire gauge? Don't need anything more than that.

But I'd recommend at least 4ga for the alt, starter, and the grounds. To the OEM fuse box its a bit overkill but can't hurt. Though if you're wiring it like OEM where the Alt flows to the fuse box before the battery then Id just keep it all 4ga.

 

OEM is a mix of 6 and 8 gauge, both undersized and the first time you hear the starter after having a larger cable you'll agree. So 4ga it is

 

I don't build them like OEM where it hops through the fuse box, I make a separate cable for the fuse box, and I make it out of 8ga

 

If you are going to go to the trouble of doing the big 3 or the big 5, it isn't worth the trouble of running under sized wire just to save a few pennies. 4ga give you a little headroom and is easy to work with and isn't very expensive and will be a big improvement over OEM.

 

Thats what I do. Alt to battery. Then battery to fuse box. A 4ga cable fits into the fuse box compression fitting though, how I have mine.
