They called it a Torsen Limited Slip.

 

Manual FX4 level 2 was a wet dream in my early twenties. What a cool truck, pretty rare too.

 

You're right there was a Torsen diff in Ranger Level IIs. I didn't know that; I thought it first appeared in Boss 302. But it still doesn't use clutches. That is the point of them. All Torsen diff are helical gear style.

The 5.0 in the Explorer had slightly better heads and intake than the Mustang 5.0. Point being unless heavily modified (HCI) IMO the 5.0 is a dog. Decent low end up falls on its face pretty quick.

 

Even though it has a car engine?

 

Calling a 900hp naturally aspirated fully forged purpose built race engine "a car motor" is like calling the USS Nimitz "a boat".

I'll stick with my assessment, as long a folks keep calling the 3.5l a car engine. Just like the over 1,000hp car motors in the SSC hypercars and such.







There is no such thing as a 'car' or 'truck' engine.

But minivan engine > car/truck engines. Minivans have more payload and more hp/tq than our tacos, thus making them superior.

 

What about semi truck engines?

 

The argument can be made that they are in fact ship engines.

 

0.5L? Pfft.
