    A. There is no parking to my right - that's my space to get in and out of the truck.
    B. There is a Tahoe to my left that is virtually sideways. Pretty sure the lady driving it once got "frisky" with FDR.
    C. Parking is like tennis. On the line counts as "in."

For single or double line spots, it is more like basketball. If you touch or cross over the line, you are out of bounds.
For handicap loading/ramp sections, you are out of bounds if you touch any paint if you don't have a placard. If you do have a placard, it is fair game to take any space up to half the width of the loading/ramp section to allow wheelchair to pass your vehicle to another spot.
I know more than one guy with a lift in the bed to swing their chairs around, it's amusing to see them park next to the doors of non-hc vehicles that park over the lines. As long as their mirrors dont touch, they don't care how close it is. And rightfully so.

No placard - DV plates with chair. I got Karened at once for not having a placard and simply said "hey Magoo, look down."

in PA you still need the placard to go with parking in handicap/disabled, as I assume some other states as well. they should probably ratify this across the country but I guess there are "degrees" of disability associated as well?

I looked this up before posting to make sure I was in the know, but according to the FAQ "NOTE: No special parking privileges are associated with this registration plate."

Texas has all kinds of specialty license plates. DV (disabled veteran) have the same privileges as regular handicapped plates. If you qualify for a placard you can get it as a license plate, so if you have the plate you don't need to display the placard. Over the last two years they ran out of the plates and are only doing placards at the moment because of COVID response (or so they told me when I registered my wife's car).

You have to make an appointment on an online portal just to do in-person registrations. Took me a week to get in.

Suspicion is that they're changing everything just to "motivate" everyone to use the online portal, which is meh. They get hacked occasionally - not impressed.

Ironically the parking lot at our closed TXDOT office was designed horribly and is usually full of candidates for this thread.

In GA it's either/or - don't need to display both. The placard is typically used if the disabled person is riding in someone else's vehicle.

(speaking from experience with my wife's parents in their later years)

I get it, and I would hope at some point they (PA and other states) make the DV plates have the same rights as the disabled plates/placard.

Good luck. A huge unexpected benefit in Texas is that DV plates are exempt from tolls on certain toll roads. That's HUGE as they replace crappy highways with more and more toll roads. I know y'all are used to them, but we're not fans since distance in Texas is measured in hours and not miles.

MA has gone from plate to placard..and the example you gave I suspect is at least part of the reason, makes a lot of sense. My brother in law has one and if we are going somewhere we know there's a lot of walking we use it in my vehicle. At a concert venue they have a special small lot there and to get in you have to show the placard (which I believe has a picture on it) and the ID of the person in the vehicle as well..

My friend in college had a plate b/c it was his aunt's and she was unable to drive. That said he was self disciplining..would never use the space unless he was with her, dropping her off, or picking her up because he didn't want to take it from someone else who needs it

Same here in MT. I chose the standard "Veteran" plates instead though. I'm still capable of walking a bit and prefer parking in the back of lots when I go into town. In my small town, I'll let the ones who are elderly or less capable (meaning have no choice but to use a mobility chair etc etc) have the small amount of spots offered in these small parking lots. Unsure about toll fees though, but I know my registration went from almost $400 down to $48. So I'll take it. Previously, I know Virginia does a similar thing, but the discount is based off your disability rating. So if you are only 70%, then you get a 70% discount. Montana currently only offers plates for 100% and the veteran plates are an option if you dont want them. If you just want Veteran plates and a reduced registration, you have to have an honorable discharge. Even a "general" regardless of why doesn't qualify you. It's always something... I have a General, but rated at 100% so all I had to do was show the Benefits Summary and Verification letters the VA gave me.

Anyways... Probably gonna just opt for the DV plates next time.

In Oregon you can get DV plates if you have a service connected rating. Plates are permanent, so just initial registration/plate fee. I also have a disability placard with the wounded warrior decal. Decal let's the vet park in time restricted public use spots longer than posted as long as it is not a 30min or less spot, and allows parking in metered spots without feeding the meter.

Oh wow. Sounds pretty good to me ;)
Montana only offers permanent plates for older vehicles. I think it's 8 years old at least? I know MT also has a purple heart plate, but I didn't want that one either. I'm going to ask about the metered spots, but I don't see any clarification on the website about it. Probably not. MT wants their money one way or another ;)

C’mon man. This doesn’t fit the thread either. The guys is in his car and he’s out away from everyone. I suspect he’s temporarily parked that way so he can be lazy and not have to back out.
