About time to change tires

It is about time to change tires… the good year wranglers have been ok… but I want a more aggressive tire.

facts: ( do not hit me too hard )

I drive an off road 4x4 but never off roaded it. Why? Do not have time, do not have anyone to go with, have not find anywhere fun to go around where I live (miami Fl)

I want to slowly start modding my truck (on a budget) and only when parts wear out (tires, suspension)

nothing crazy…

so, going back to the tires, I am not there yet but getting close to having to change my tires.

More facts:

I daily drive my truck and do 80% city drive and 20% highway.

I KNOW, I should get like a Michelin ltx ms2 (had them, great on road tire)

BUT

yes… I am mall crawler (for now) really want to start exploring the nearby places and enjoy the looks of my truck more and more.

How bad my gas mileage will drop?

I would go to 265 75 r16

Awesome tire, especially in the snow. Also it looks really good.

They are a bit noisy though.

 

The Toyo At3 looks like a great tire. I went with the BFG K02 just on availability. I also jumped up to a 17" TRD Sema wheel and was able put on a load C tire.

 

I went from my factory 245/75/r16 Firestone highway tires to Goodyear Ultraterrain 265/75/r16 AT's https://www.discounttiredirect.com/buy-tires/goodyear-wrangler-ultraterrain-at (I believe they are exclusive to Discount Tire) and my gas mileage actually improved by about 1 MPG. Full disclosure - I did switch from the factory steelies to Vision Turbine alloys at the same time, but from what I've read the steel to alloy swap shouldn't really account for any noticeable MPG improvement. Anyways I do get my truck into some nasty mud and occasionally some sand and these Ultraterrains have been great. On the other hand, 85% of my driving is on the highway or downtown city streets and they do great there too. Road noise is only a hair louder than my factory highway tires and they do great on wet city streets to boot. Here's a tread pic for reference.

I did the same once I wore out the Goodyear Wranglers. I started looking at Falken Wildpeaks, loved the look, lots of postive reviews, road noise was limited, and price was amazing. Best all terrain tire for the buck, I actually recently sold my AT tires because I upgraded to a MT. If I had to go back to a AT I would 100% pick up another set of Wildpeaks.

I have wildpeaks now. Everything is awesome about them expect they were a bitch to balance, and the sidewall is showing some early dry rot after only being about a year old.

I think I'm going to try the AT3 next.

The new cooper rugged trek looks bad ass but I think they have limited sizes in 16.

 

I had duratracs on my Silverado. Awesome tire but deff got noisy after about 10k miles on them.

 

Mine were noisy right from the start. Definitely not the best pavement tire.

Thats a summary of all the responses youre going to get.

 

In MY personal experience, Micky Thompson tires are made from a softer compound than others, id skip those.

Toyo, bfg, cooper, even nitto, general tire, all good brands for an AT.

I say try those Mickey Thompsons! They're available in SL load range, which is ideal for mostly street use.

Otherwise, I have the Toyos and they're very nice, too.
