No one else has started this. What do you all think of the concept EV tacoma? I have a slight suspicion. Just a hunch. Being very late to the ev pickup market will work for Tacoma.. I suspect, it's already thrashing around in some hidden dessert, learning and adapting.

I’ll bite. Soooo if you run out of power in the middle of nowhere, that’s gonna be an expensive tow. The US grid system is nowhere near able to handle a majority switch to EVs. The extra battery weight will take down the payload. 4x4 ing will have risk of cracking your EV battery - hell I’ve cracked 12v batteries off-road unexpectedly in a buggy before.

For on-road adventures near a charging station, sure. But I use my Tacoma to get the hell away from people - and charging stations. IMHO this is not a truck for me (barring a 600+ Mile range which I doubt it will have).

    Many posts .

ev truck can be good . But not if it’s $90k and weighs over 7,000lbs

wait for tesla cyber truck, and see what the specs are

There’s a reason tesla fans/owners are annoying POS …. Cuz all the other EVs are … annoying POS. Don’t believe me ? Go EV car shopping and report back.

probably -30% battery range. Especially with mtn driving. Even my little model 3 suffers in the cold mtn with range. But it’s the lesser of two Evils. The other evil being a gas powered dinosaur clunker that has 10 trillion parts that can break and you constantly have to feed it four dollars a gallon otherwise it just won’t go anywhere

Oh the one good thing about EV’s in cold weather is instantaneous heater and defroster don’t need to wait for the engine to heat up

Oh and the one bad thing about EV’s in the cold is the instantaneous torque response on icy or snowy roads can break traction easy if you don’t set it up right or aren’t careful

IMO I could live with a hybrid but it is a big no if it were to go EV. I like my vehicle to work around me not me work around my car I.E. I dont want to have to plan a trip around my cars ability to recharge. Even the reduction of range in cold temperatures just makes me want to avoid all electric vehicles. To me at least with hybrid you still have a gasoline engine to get you around if your batteries are not working at 100% capacity. Toyota has had great success with the Prius so if they were to make a hybrid Tacoma it might be pretty good.

I don't think I'd want a fully electric tacoma, hybrid maybe.

I will just place this here, not sure if it's been posted anywhere but basically this guy decides to blow up his tesla model s because battery needs to be replaced which costs 22,500.

    We can only hope…
Toyota resisted battery electrics (BEV) - in milking their Hybrid lead.

They declared their commitment to hybrids and discounted benefits of BEV.

Then the Japanese government implemented a zero emission target - only shortly after the above declaration…

    embarrassing timing…

Toyota is now on track. Will need to catch-up

I think Rivian provides a good standard - other than looks!

    "Nobody else has posted this"

Literally like 4 threads in the past 2 months about the possibility, speculations, roasting it, and just general EV bullshit.

Only a couple more hours... you couldn't have waited until 12:01?

Idk. The only thing I can liken it to is when all the smart phones started coming out in 2008+. I resisted getting a smart phone because I thought who the hell needs a laptop in their hand and I don’t want to pay for that expensive cell service agreement. But looked how that turned out …

all the worries and complaints about EV‘s are true. But trust me you guys are all going to buy one , and probably sooner than you think. Nobody wants to walk around now days with one of them Nokia bricks phones right ? (Well maybe some ppl do lol)

My finance's prius c hybrid battery pack didn't even last 10 years and the dealer wanted thousands for a replacement (ended up trading the car in). I want to keep my truck for a long time and wouldn't want the expensive battery pack going bad looming over my head.

That’s a similar cost to when a high performance gas powered engine needs to be replaced. Nothing too surprising there.

If anyone calls me a jack ass I'm gonna flip em the bird and walk off.

My electric bill is already enough. I don't enjoy spending hours "charging" things. And there are too many problems. It's too costly to repair these things and also costs more OTD. When I can recharge in the same time as a normal fuel fill up, maybe. When it doesn't take nuclear power and carbon emissions to produce these tree hugging solutions, absolutely. When they don't cost so much that it's cheaper to discard them and get a new one - getting your further into debt, sure! For now, and probably the rest of my lifetime:

No man. No man! NO MAN! NO!

Progress isn't going to start with the consumer here, regardless of what they are feeding you to "be the change you want to be". It's not for everyone and won't be for a VERY long time.

I, for one, agree with you. It seems like there's a dozen or so peeps on this site trying very hard on these threads to (sell?) these EV's to anyone who'll listen. I ain't buying!!!
