How do you fit 30's with no lift and minimal trimming.

 

That's all it is. Marketing. It's not about the "science" of it. It's not about saving anything. It's a sale. Elon laughing that shit up while pumping his space shuttles full of carbon filled crude shit!
Don't get me wrong. I love the idea. How can you not? But I'm not buying into it for the marketing gimmick when it's a blip on the map compared to the rest of the worlds problems.

 

That's just a lifted one though; AWD drive didn't come along until 2019 and that one is no newer than 2014 or so (Gen III)...

They are definitely not for everyone but I’m hopeful the technology advances enough that one will work for me. As far as cost, the electric bill would be way, way cheaper than the gas bill for me. Driving 50k miles in my Tacoma will cost about $12k, the same distance in a Rivian should cost almost $10k less at my current electricity rate.

Understandable and I can agree with you here. I just have a hard time believing, especially where I live, that it's safe to rely on electricity. When power goes out here, we fill up generators with fuel. Solar panels are not an option for more than 60% of the year. I'm sure there are other resourceful measures to generating electricity, but cost effective for the average consumer? Probably not. If for some reason I had to charge my vehicle and knew that I couldn't make it to where I needed to be tomorrow when the power goes out, that's a terrible situation. I mean, unless you have paid sick days, lol "Sorry, can't make it in again".

It does sound like you've done the math though. So the trade off what you spend in fuel actually saves money in the long run with the electric bill? That part I can get behind. The rest might be still seen as "what if's and speculations" to some people, but they are legit concerns to a majority.

I also wonder how many EV's were stuck in that storm in VA and stranded. I wonder how something like that would play out. It's a big part of my life style to avoid situations leaving me up shits creek. I've done it enough to myself before, I don't need my vehicle doing it to me now (inb4 the 1st and 2nd gen taco owners start shitting on us 3rd gen owners lol).

 

Just an FYI, A hybrid Audi is doing really well in the Dakar rally, except a crash that had nothing to d with the drivetrain.
I feel like Toyota would go this route as well.

eh...what ever... I gotta go on a pointless joy ride right now because the car has been recharging all day with my solar panels. Yup, the 500 ft-lb AWD torque monster uncle Elon built me should provide a fun drive. I don't know , sometime I feel like that "Drift Mode" helps send more power split to the back around them sharp turns. Eh, if I don't like the way it drives ill just use my pinky finger to set it back to "track mode". I know...I know, it's kind of late, but if I feel sleepy I'll just slap that bitch in autopilot while I shit post on my Tesla forum (not gonna lie, I primarily make fun of you cavemen behind your backs, sorry).

Awesome . I’ll offer to meet you at VIR and race in my 3rd gen Tacoma . My only request is the race is 600 miles . Pretty sure I’ll win - that charging time sucks eh? But if you do win, we can go double or nothing, 500 miles w my C63….I like being a caveman. When I light up the c63 people see and f-in hear/feel it. Sure beat me in a drag race w your Elon car. Twice. But let’s do 4 quarter miles . Without charging . Again pretty sure I’ll win. But to each his own. You do you I’ll do me. Btw I’ve ordered a license plate frame which says “Thanks for driving an EV- I need the gas” (not really - c63 gets low to mid 20’s if I’m responsible) .

 

And I’ll best everything you just mentioned on my motorcycle that is not only far cheaper but also more fuel efficient and way more fun. Different tools for different jobs.

Question though, how is the frame supposed to flex when off-road if it’s got batteries jammed between the frame? I ask this because I work for a car company that’s putting out an all electric truck and I’ve seen the build concept in pictures show the batteries between the frame rails. My first thought as an avid off reader is what happens if you crack a battery pack when twisting the frame going up the trail?

 

You do you, man! I had a lifted Subaru Crosstrek and within the first 7 months I could tell it was NOT going to make it to 200k that way, lol.

If and only if all or most car manufacturers come together to make a universal battery, will I even possibly entertain an EV. A universal battery that you can just roll up to a GAS EV station, and swap out a freshly charged battery pack in under 3 minutes. Can keep extra battery packs with you like Jerry cans.

But no, manufacturers will want their own proprietary batteries fixed to the car so ridiculously, that no one can change them except a rocket scientist.
