    It’s missing the coatings that are usually on brand new rotors. They look decent but how does the inside of the case look? If the case isn’t scored to hell then it looks fair.
    Depending on the price you can have it sent in to a reputable rebuilder and still have a deal.

    The obvious wear is the bearings on the backside of the case causing the rotors to contact the case and scratch it up. I don’t think that would really cause an issue with performance as long as it’s rebuilt properly with new bearings, etc before running it again. Most people are put off by unusual supercharger noise, mostly caused by metal contact and probably the reason why he wants to get rid of it.
    I also spoke to a certified magnuson rebuilder and they do not recommend re-coating the rotors for whatever reason. Get a good deal on it and factor in $700-1000 for a complete top to bottom rebuild.

    600.00 is a fair offer BUT because you can’t hear it running and there looks to be oil covering the nose area you can still
    have other issues.
    The biggest problem with the 1gen supercharger is you can’t get parts anymore, besides bearing type parts,
    And for whatever reason the nose seal, snout seal tend to leak.

    my nose snout and rotor plate and rotors were all shot and not repairable.
    Lucky I was able to get used ones that were rebuilt but ended costing 2500 at the end of the day.
    So it’s a gamble,

    DONT USE HIGH SPEED LAB as your rebuilder! A year later after spending 1500 the supercharger crashed and cost my 2500 to fix all HSL poor quality work by Jon bond,

    Did you look to see if the spindles were cut down?
    This is something HSL did to my rotors to get them to fit on a rebuild, this was poor quality rebuilding work and rotors needed to be replaced after their rebuild by Jon Bond.

    The thermal coating rotors is a good idea to have done just because there is so much heat created because there is no inner cooler help.
    The intake temperatures can hit 200 degrees on a hot summer day under boost if methanol is not used,
    The more boost or the smaller the pulley the more heat you will create.

    I actually did hear it run. So the guy rebuilt it with new bearings (which is where the internal pics are coming from) but it's currently back in his truck:

    He came to pick up an engine and trans I was giving away and we started talking trucks, he mentioned he had a SC, I asked to see it, he saw my excitement, and he offered it to me. I turned it on and gave it a few revs. It didn't have any weird noises and sounded like a SC.

    Oh interesting info on HSL. I was actually planning on shipping my rotors to them! Who would you recommend as a good reputable rebuilder?

    I'm not really versed in SC terminology yet, what do you mean by cut down spindles?

    For 600.00 your probably good then.

    but did he replace the rotor pack bearings and seals?

    a lot of people do rebuilds and don’t replace the rotor pack bearings because the rotors have to be timed and can be a challenge to do correctly without a jig.
    If they were not replaced and the rotor seals were not replaced you will be on borrowed time regardless.
    You can be leaking oil pass the rotor pack seals into the rotor area and never even know until your supercharger blows up from no oil in the snout.
    This happened to me,
    You should drill a hole on the top snout ,put a butt type bolt and make a dipstick so you can check the level at anytime.

    You also will want to update to the dynamic tension pulley setup
    The older type is not as good.

    600.00 would be a great deal regardless, but have an additional 1000.00 on hand for other issues

    Just remember there are supercharger rebuilders that “can” rebuild magnuson sc’s and there are authorized companies that will rebuild your supercharger to OE specs with the proper equipment. You’ll just have to do some research so you don’t end up with a shotty “it’ll work for now” product. Regardless 600 bucks is a steal and I’m jealous haha.

    I'd just install it and run it. Enjoy the extra power. its not hard to swap it on and off for service. just check the oil once a week for a bit. you will know it has no oil and there is a problem if it starts to make more noise than it usually does

    it won't just explode and send stuff through the motor as long as you pay attention to it. listen to it on startup if it gets loud and metal on metal sounding its time for a rebuild. or if it stops whining when you get on the throttle, thats another clue its not building as much boost and somethings wrong

    Interesting. I have not heard of this before. How does adding the zip kit to the transgo kit change things?
