Can 99.9% guarantee they don't use OEM fluid. My local dealership doesn't stock any of it. Parts counter told me they use whatever they can get in bulk. They don't even use the correct weight as specified in the manual. I have a MT and just know they'd dump GL-5 in there.... Do it yourself, do it right.

One way to test is to go ask for the OEM fluids, showing them part numbers. If it's not on the shelf, there's no way they're using it.

They did. It was billed out on the invoice. They charge a little under an hour of labor and the rest was fluid cost.

Well there you go! I mean, if it is on the invoice then they MUST have used it! Right? Did you see the fluid in its container before they used it? Empty containers after they installed it? Because, a dealer's strong sense of ethics would NEVER allow them to bill for a product and then substitute a less expensive product in its place. Factory parts that are under the hood or elsewhere on the truck that can be viewed by the owner? No. CONSUMABLES like fluids with no Toyota logo on them? Whada' you think? Noooo, their profit motive is not that strong.

Damn, I can't believe I squandered my entire day's allotment of sarcasm on this thread...

But I have an idea about it: I have great perspective on the subject. Worked in an auto dealership's service department putting myself through college. Later, worked in a GM dealership after retiring in my forties from surgical sales, but only to buy a truck at employee pricing. Been in the marine business twice since then too, working at dealerships (yes, to buy two boats at dealer pricing) the second time as business manager, hired specifically to install dealership management software due to my experience with materials management/financial software in hospitals. So, I know EXACTLY how dealership systems can be manipulated to do what you claim they can't do above.

Way down the rabbit hole on defending yourself here, aren't we? You are far too vested in fighting off what you perceive as attacks on you, when we are just attacking the dealerships, based on life-long real-time experience, knowledge gained over decades, far more expansive than your own. You don't hide your narcissism well.

Take a joke Sally. How many wife jokes happen on a truck forum on the daily? Come on man. A tacoma forum is not a place you should seek sympathy.

I just had mine done at 37,000 at the dealer. It's easy to do and I would recommend doing it yourself next time. That's what I plan on doing.

Had my transfer case, rear & front diffs done at the dealer...mainly to get the factory plugs loosened for the first time. Never again... got charged for 11 qts when it only takes 7. Talked to the manager... his reply was "well, sometimes they take more." :annoyed:
