Good morning pa. Dropping my truck off here shortly to get the alignment done. Then waiting for the call from my brother to help him move to his new house. He might lose me tomorrow tho with this wind chill warning and this cold moving in.

 

I learned how to drive a manual in 1979 or 1980 while working as a parking valet at the now defunct Holiday House in Monroeville. Big name acts would come there and there was a group of us high school students who would park the cars as they came in and race to get them to the patrons as quickly as possible when they were leaving - all with the hope of a nice tip. We were just assigned randomly to a car. Eventually, I would a stick. The first few times weren't so good, so one of my co-workers took me up into the lot to "practice" on somebody's car. Yikes. I was 16 or 17 at the time.

 

Wow "the holiday house" what an icon back in the day.

 

I never saw any of the acts. There was a young man, maybe in his 20s, a graduate of the University of Pitt, who had the parking contract. Maybe he was connected to the HH management. He hired local high school students to park the cars. Depending upon the act - and thus the size of the crowd - there would be anywhere from 4 to 8 of us - if my memory serves me right. I don't recall getting a set pay. I think it was all based upon tips and you could make up to $200, not bad back then. Most people gave a $5 or a $10, some a few bucks. Some big shots would come out after the show and wave a $20 bill if the valets jumped them to the front of the line, so they could leave more quickly.

 

The wheels add just the right pop.

Still looks ready for the showroom after 25 years!

I have not felt this bad since I had pneumonia about 10 years ago .

 

nowadays we are lucky if these new kids know how to start a car with an actual key

 

Hang in there. Hopefully this is a mild case and you and your wife will be back on your feet soon. I know my mother called me a few days ago to say she is COVID positive too. She said it feels like a bad cold.

 

LOL. Yeah. I would not want some kid to drive my manual vehicle today. I guess we were more accepting - or should I say more naive - back in the old days.

 

The first few days were brutal . Massive headache and dizziness . Chills then fever . Now just small headache ,slightly dizzy and sore throat .

 

lifetime member here, I’d be chairman of the board if they vote me in. I’m holding strong at 6 for 6 at my compound for stick shifts. Gen Z will have no luck stealing one of my rigs

 

I actually miss driving stick. When the time comes I'll get another one.

 

I had it , fever for 4 days then stuffy head , took me about 9 days to shake it , then I felt tired for days... hang in there, take it easy , drink, eat ... stay upright to help lungs....

 

Wonder if @Taco critter is driving this beast. ?

 

Superload….those PennDOT workers sure have a good sense of humor

 

My Tacoma would be stick but the DCLB is the only model with automatic only.
