Yes! I was thinking about doing a Saturday morning meet and ride on Grassy Gap Road (34.60952, -84.00390) and over to coopers gap then down fs 28-1, then maybe nimblewill gap up through old bucktown road.

Based on who all is coming, i can set some rendevous points. I ideally would like to get on the trail around 10am.
Also if a few are interested, I would add a night ride portion the night before for camping.

Figured we could get off the trail around 1 and fetch a beer at NoFo Brew afterwards

Suggestion - I would start on Horseshoe Ridge/S. Bryant Creek, it's maybe a 1/4 mile further down the road on the left (same side as Grassy Gap). Short out and back with some fun obstacles.

With all the recent rain, the deepest mud pit on Grassy Gap will be probably be really deep right now, like coming over the hood deep. There is a go around someone cut a while back to the left, though I've heard it is a mess right now too. Should still be able to get through the pit, just don't stop[IMG]

I'm about an hour and a half from there and just got scheduled to do weekend patching. You guessed it....10:00am on Saturday. So if I left home at 11am, I could be there by around 12:30.

Nimblewill Gap Rd and Old Bucktown Rd were extremely underwhelming when I went last year. Like dirt road with a couple potholes disappointing.

So maybe I just plan to come for the beers.

@Stormpeacock I would pretty much agree with this assessment - Nimblewill is only slightly rougher than a maintained forest road. Old Bucktown is narrower, has more puddles to splash through, and maybe a spot or two to stretch your suspension a little, but can still be done in 2wd, especially downhill.

Cooper Gap and FS 28-1 are maintained forest roads as well, so everything after Grassy Gap on your route is going to be pretty tame in comparison.

Has anyone been to Charlie’s Creek since it’s been graded? I was planning on going last weekend but the rain held those plans up. Might shoot up there this Saturday if anyone is interested.

So tomorrow night, it is at least me and steven martinez (indigo taco) doing a night ride in on Old Bucktown through Nimblewill, and up to Jones Creek rd to set up camp.
Then Saturday morning we will get up and make our way up to Knight Creek and eat lunch there by way of Rock Creek Road, so should make good time heading through there.
Unfortunately, quite a few trails are supposed to be closed for the season in the WMA.
Let me know if anyone wants in on any of that and we can work out rendezvous points.

Nice, Knight Creek is fun. On the right side near the end of Rock Creek Road, there is an out and back trail called FS-656/69E/Totem Pole that says its for high clearance vehicles and should be open. I meant to check it out it last weekend but didn't make it that far up before I had to head home, might be worth a little detour to see if it's any good.

I take it Knight Creek was closed for you too? I went up Sunday and every trail I planned to hit was gated even though they were listed as open on the FS maps. Ended up going down Flatland Rd in the pouring rain with lightning striking all around us - talk about putting hair on your peaches, holy hell. Definitely type 2/3 fun, do not attempt if you are not okay with your vehicle getting damaged.

Yeah for some reason sea creek was closed which is the route to knight creek (listed as open).
Old bucktown was pretty good, fun at night. Grassy gap was a good one for the morning. Glad i got my fill -- was disappointed to not get the pretty ride on knight creek.

Also checked out that Totem Pole road at the end of rock creek. Disappointing, wouldnt recommend. Its narrow, very smooth, windy, and ends at someone's private property

That's the goal, just gotta figure where to go that's open and not too difficult to get to with the potential road conditions. Clayton sounds like it will get the most snow, but may be hard to get to from Atlanta.

I called the Blue Ridge Ranger district and asked about the gate being closed at Sea Creek Rd, and was told those trails have been recently changed to seasonal and won't reopen until March.

My mother in law lives in Clayton. I will pay her a visit tomorrow and bring up some supplies.
I will likely get out of there before night fall and the ice and snow start impacting the roads.
