You don't need to get it in. Open door...left hand on brake...right finger on PTS. Works well as long as you don't have a 9" lift.

My Taco will advise on the instrument cluster when the engine is running, and the fob cannot be sensed.
I will test by starting my Taco, then shutting off the fob, and observe what happens.

I HATE SHOES! Anyone else HATE shoes!? You always have to get new ones and they force you to buy socks! What if I don't want to buy socks? I wanna go back to walking barefoot all the time.

Uh, you know theres a lock pad on the door handle right? Close the door, touch the handle, listen for the beep, walk away.

Its not my trucks fault if I find it unlocked in the morning.

I don’t miss my keys smacking against the dash all the time. And the remote start is handy on the colder days.

The Jeep is my wife’s, so it is what it is there. I’m not going to ask her to turn off the fob daily and turn it back on to save a few bucks in battery life.

The ESS on the Jeep is super invasive. It will keep the AC running and whatnot, but if you’re turning left and have driven out into the intersection it will shut off randomly, even with the blinker on. I feel like that’s a huge flaw right there, if the wheel is turned or if the directional is on it shouldn’t shut off. That momentary delay is enough to cause issues in either hesitation or not. The other one that blew my mind was backing out of a space at a grocery store. I was in reverse, stopped, put it into drive and went to go forward and it shut off.

Luckily there is a button right in the main stack to disable it. It’s now standard practice to start the car and immediately shut it off.

No idea on the requirement. Late model rear drive Chryslers, Comaros, and BMW do not have a lock. I could be wrong, things could have changed, and this could very between model, year, and options.

Man, reading some of these comments about how much people struggle with the push to start makes me wonder how the rest of your day goes.

Touch the little ridges on the top of the handle and it will lock/unlock. Once you get used to doing this as you close your door, it just becomes habit.

Do you need to touch them to unlock on the tacoma? On my tundra you just grab the handle and it unlocks, then touch the ridges to lock. I figured all Toyotas would be like that.

    All the things!
You're correct. Touching the ridges only locks it. You have to fully grab the handle to unlock it.

No, you can just grab the handle but if I want to unlock the back doors, I just touch the ridges and all doors unlock and I can then open the back. Could do it with just grabbing the handle as well.

Every car I've had for the last 10+ years has had it so it's never bothered me. The wife especially prefers it as she never takes her keys out of her bag.

I can see the drawbacks for some I guess, but for our use, we far prefer it this way.

I'm not sure of the rules either. But I know 100% my push to start 19 OR has one.

It's not a 'pad' per se - it's 3 subtle lines on the door handle.

Not quite true - mine will unlock if I just touch the handle with one finger.
