Hyper Flash after new turn signal connector

Hello everyone. I recently replaced both front turn signal connectors on my truck as they needed replacing. The truck comes stock with 2 wires and I read that you can buy the 3 wire connector and if you only wire in 2, it works. Well, the fix worked. Only problem is now I have hyper flash all the time. On stock bulbs and leds it will hyper flash. Anyone have this issue or fix? Anyone know where I can get the 2 wire connector? Anyway to permanently disable hyper flash from the relay? I can't seem to find anything.

Edit: got the problem fixed. Ended up going to a salvage yard and found 2 connectors off 2 Toyota Corollas. Took the connectors and replaced the aftermarket 3 wire connectors with the oem 2 wire connectors on the Corollas and now it works perfectly. Only hyper flashes with leds only. Thank you to everyone who helped me out! I learn so much in this forum.

 

I used two of these (one on each side of the truck) when I installed my LED signals in my ARB bumper. I was getting the hyper flash and the way to fix it is with resistors. Easy fix and surprisingly inexpensive.

I replaced the actual connector where the bulb goes into the socket. Not the bulb. It's hyperflashing with regular bulbs. Maybe not enough resistance?

 

Do you have it wired to the correct 2 pins on the connector?

 

Yes I believe so. Ground to ground and power to power and the third wire is disabled.

 

A 2009 Tacoma uses a 4157 bulb for the front turn signal. If I'm not mistaken, that's a dual filament bulb which means you should have two positive leads (one for each filament), plus one ground. Since you're missing one hot lead, that might explain the hyperflash. You should not need resistors for the stock bulbs, only the LEDs.

 

So the connector should be fine, maybe it's just not a dual filament bulb socket then? I'm not currently on the oem sockets but I'll see if that makes a difference.

 

It's a dual filament bulb but one of the hot leads is blanked out in the connector. You can either add the resistor, replace the blinker relay with one for LEDs, or take apart the blinker relay and file down a particular piece of metal that acts as a resister. I did the filing version and it worked, there is tutorial around, I'll try to find it.
You can also connect the blank to the corner marker light for a simple DRL mod.

My mod is on pg 29.

 

One side of the bulb is day time running lights the other is turn signal with a shared ground you are missing a load on one filament.

 

Sorry if I'm not understanding. So the 3 wire connector is missing a load or is it the socket missing a load? And if it's the connector thats missing the load, I'd have to splice in a resistor or get an led flasher relay correct? The truck has day running lights stock. Sorry for the confusion.

 

I added the black wire. The hole in the plug (red arrow) had a blank rubber plug.

 

I think I'd swap the wire on that connector and see if it solves your issue.

 

I think I'm just gonna have to find a wrecked 09 and just take those connectors. For now I'll just ride with the hyper flash. That's gonna get annoying quickly.

 

Somewhere in the stickies there is a chart of all the connector and numbers, I'm sure these connectors are used in other Toyota models and you can get replacements on ebay/Amazon/etc.
Finding a wrecked tacoma at a junk yard is surprisingly hard.

 

If using dual filament bulb, one filament operates on less power so it is dimmer than other filament. If you are sending power for turn signal to the low pwr filament, it will hyper flash. Turn signal need to be on the higher power filament.
Swap your power with the blank to power the alternate filament and see if it flashes correctly.

My 05 Tacoma had a 3 pin socket but on 2 wires. I added a 3rd wire to make the low power filament come on with parking lights.

Found q wrecked 05 Prerunner in a junkyard and I'm gonna check it out. Anyone know if the wiring is the same for the drl and stuff or if the 05 has drug? I'd hate to take the time and do it just to have the same results.

Yeah I called like 15 salvage yards asking for 99-15 Tacos and only 1 had an 05. But it was completely stripped. I ended up taking 2 off of 2 corollas with the same plug and wires so I'm hoping these will work

 

One big issue I can tell you about is resistor grounding it has to have a good ground that means a bright shiny resistor ground yeah through the paint it is the key to a hyper flash. I kind of lost track but your purple wire needs to be tied into your resistor. The Toyota setup is a bit strange it uses the inactive wire as a ground as a resistor that is why it works with only two wires.
