I would like to replace my rear bumper with a factory stock replacement to keep truck original. What are your recommendations for this and where is the best place to get one. This is the only area on the truck that is rusted and removing it and having it repainted is not an option. I would rather replace it. Thanks for any comments on this.

Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or anywhere online. Should be able to have one shipped to your house. If it is color matched, then you may be looking at a dealership.

When I needed a rear bumper for my 05 I went to a local vehicle junk yard and they sourced it for me in another yard's inventory. They usually share their stock and can help you find one. Paid 50 bucks for a perfect bumper. Check your local vehicle yard out.

Matt, unfortunately I live in the prime rust belt so a good local find is most likely not going to happen. Thanks

The other problem I am finding is that I can't find one that is compatible with the factory hitch. They don't have the two raised caps for the bolt heads on the hitch mounting.

What's not compatible with the hitch? The raised caps can be purchased separately if needed (or reuse your existing ones).

I guess I thought the factory hitch had the bolt heads going thru the bumper and the heads stuck up enough so they used the taller plastic caps and the bumper was different? Am I wrong in my understanding of this? Thank you

The only thing that is different are those caps (flush caps for trucks w/o hitch and dome caps for trucks w/hitch). The bumper shell and support beam are the same for trucks with or w/o a hitch. Those two bolts secure the bumper support beam to the hitch, but have nothing to do with the bumper shell. So for trucks w/o a hitch those two bolts are simply omitted and flush caps are used in place of the dome caps since obviously there are no protruding bolt heads needing to be accommodated.

In case you're not familiar with how the bumper assembly goes together, maybe check out this thread as an example to help paint a clearer picture for you: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...nd-bumper-cover-removal.556093/#post-18135245
