Reliability is over rated. I'm more into getting thumbs up at the mall. And on my Insta.

 

It's doesn't have to flex. A rock buggy, ultra 4 car, or trophy truck doesn't have much chassis flex (ridged roll cage). That's the job of the suspension (to "flex" as you say).

Still , you do have a point though...if the materials that make this EV chassis are not super strong for a 7,000lb + truck (and should not allow flex) . I don't know how a rivinan prevents this with is massive weight. I assume the EV F150 will just have an isolated ridged battery pack between the normal flexy frame (isolated from it just like a stock gas tank is isolated from it) .

But yeah good point. Ideally the battery pack should be an integrated part of the chassis. Which means no flex off road! Yet EVs are heavy so something's got to give if you are beating hard off road. This is why I say for any new EV truck, wait till one is ~5,000lbs.

 

I like the idea of hybrids. If electricity is unavailable, gas can charge batteries.

It was reported in Kentucky that cars were unable to charge after the tornado went through.

 

That would be great for "quick fuel ups". The problem is having a structural battery back (as part of the chassis itself, so can't swap it) helps saves a lot of materials and weight = more range , cheaper , and better handling .

With an appropriate gas generator you can charge an EV. Doing the math converting generator output to miles added and fuel burnt it comes out to about 11mpg which isn’t great but I’ve done worse in my Tacoma before.

 

There are ways to hook up a generator to a junction box which would allow for a pump or two to work. The question is if they have the provision wired already which I dont see them having it wired at that time.

in an area damaged by a natural disaster, wouldn't it be easier to get 20 gallons of gas rather than a full charge of your car?

 

Personally, I could never imagine buying any EV... As it is, I thoroughly enjoy huffing fumes during fill-ups. Can't stop. Won't stop.

The look has nothing to do with it being electric. Why can't Toyota make the Tacomas look like this now!!!!!

 

Absolutely terrible. Why? Like, what's the EV hype for? We literally got to a point where engines are more reliable and cleaner than ever and guess what? Let's ruin that. I'll never buy an electric car so long as I help it. The lithium mines for these batteries is absolutely destroying entire ecosystems by the month around the world. There's nowhere to charge them, they're VERY heavy, the batteries are stupid expensive and only get you 200 or so miles before you have to STOP and CHARGE for HOURS. It's an absolute garbage idea.


Not only that, they look like a fucking lego.

 

I mean , might not be the fastest but it’s absolutely possible to fill up “off grid “.

my home solar makes 20-40kwhrs a day which is enough.

 

The issue is that until EV's can be charged in 5 minutes at any gas station across the country I will have zero interest in buying one. I road trip too much and having an EV and making a 12 hour drive in one day seems virtually impossible....

Thats the problem. Im all for EV's if the infrastructure can exist. Im waiting for the road to wirelessly charge EV's by riding next to a rail for a certain amount of time

That was what I was thinking.

 

I mean, lots of places use generators. Its not at all surprising that a gas station would.

 

I was just lazy and didnt look it up but saw you posted something that went with what I mentioned.
