My first post on TW! Been lurking for awhile and finally pulled the trigger. Thanks for the tip Marty. My salesperson Wyatt was easy to work with. I snagged a 6MT TRD Off Road allocation at MSRP, plus a $500 dealer doc fee (a bit high but not too crazy). Temporary VIN shows a week 5 build date. If all goes well delivery should be late February/early March. Requires a drive from Los Angeles, but Flagstaff is a nice place to visit.

Finally able to use the Toyota Configurator to configure a 2022 TRD Pro although that model wasn't available using my own zip code. I think I used Nashville's zip code and it became available. Not sure why it would matter what part of the country you are from but at least can spec one out now.

The Toyota Configurator finally allowed me to build a TRD Pro in my zip code, so I did just that last night. Since my dealer appears a tad sluggish with the follow ups on allocation, I followed my salesperson's suggestion of building it and requesting a quote. I have no idea how that will help, though, but that dealer is the one the Toyota site picked.

 Still, I will continue to cross my fingers, toes, and hope. What else can we do in this market under Toyota's allocation model?

Awesome, glad it worked out for you. They are a little conservative on the delivery date, mine arrived a couple weeks earlier than they expected. Enjoy

Congrats! I wish I was as lucky. I put money down on an allocation for a manual Off Road Premium on Nov. 22 and still haven't heard anything. They originally told me 3-6 months, and I'm pretty sure that what I want isn't built nearly as often and I honestly want what I want and don't want to compromise. Fortunately, it would be my second car so I am in no rush and don't need to be, but it still hurts inside when I see others moving forward with similar builds. I don't even need a '22, as my purpose for getting it won't really be realized for a while (apparently). I was more worried that if they did a refresh for the '23 model year, they would take away the manual option. Plus, it is an interim truck until an electric Tacoma is available, and that might actually be sooner than I thought.

I'm only working with one dealer, but they are the only dealer in the area that offers MSRP (I think), and I didn't even know that before calling them up to put money down on the allocation. I really only want to work with them, so that was beneficial. I'm at the point now where I hope it comes, but if it doesn't then I won't be heartbroken (I hope!). A Tacoma (or electric Toyota equivalent) is in my future, I'm just not sure when. It's on you, Toyota!

Thanks! I think the key for fast delivery is to not place an order, but to find a dealer with an allocation. If the dealer can give you at least a Temporary VIN when you put down a deposit you should get the truck in a reasonable time frame. At least that is what I would expect based on the information here at TW. Hope it works out for both of us.

Awesome man! What was your temp VIN build week if you don't mind me asking? I'm on a similar timeline with an already allocated truck and now I'm getting a bit antsy haha

Good question sikeitsryan. Build seems to be right on schedule 40prcnt. Week 2 build and January 12, the temporary VIN goes away.

Exactly. Dealer originally thought end of January for delivery to them. Now they are saying towards end of February

2 weeks ago My Dealer said my TRD Sport DC 4x4 should arrive around Feb 11th. The (temp) Vin numbers they gave me do not work online. Last 6 Vin numbers start with 01, so I am guessing it may be close to being assembled? That is If I am understanding the build process and temp Vin correctly. I have always bought one right off the lot so the wait is not what I have ever done in the past. The truck was already allocated to the dealer. I called them and put a deposit down On Dec 30th or 31st?

Already built. It is either in port for port installed accessories, or in transit.

Agree. At some point you should be able to get the permanent VIN from the dealer, but not sure exactly when in the process it becomes available.
