We've discussed this on the tractor forum before. They are building a lot of these that the bearings are completely sealed and ungreasable and putting zerks on the spindles. I don't understand the rationale but some have offered that it keeps water out of the spindle. IDK what the heck the deal is but I bet they sell more spindles if they can't be greased. Some have removed the bearing seals so they can take grease.

    I missed that conversation. Thanks.

This is the same deck that Toro has been using for 20 years. This is the 1st time a have come across these types of bearings.

Good to know about this manufacturing being used.

    Deck is rebuilt.

Waiting on my drive hub adapter.

Decided to rebuild an idler. $3 for a bearing and $2 in locking nuts with bolts. $25-$30 to buy a replacement idler. I figure I earned a case of beer with the savings.

The Predator has a 3 bolt flywheel PTO mount, the Kohler's use a 4 bolt.

    Of course.

Shut up the shop, walk out the drive and check the mail.

There sits the hub adapter I've been waiting on.

That's gonna be a tomorrow project

I have the identical mower (1993 I think), not as nice naturally... I got it for scrap for $100 and got it running just ok. The thing is a blast to use and incredibly fast, having your feet move with the deck feels odd at first. It is a giant thing to store and the deck is too wide to fit on my trailer.

Once I get caught up (yeah, right) I would like to bring it home where there is a lot of open space to mow. The little New Holland takes about 3 hours, the big Toro could probably cut that down to 90 minutes.

Working Covid units all weekend. It's supposed to snow tonight so I loaded my semi-trailer drums in the truck. There is no calling in at the hospital. They weigh 80lbs each.

Thank you for being there for the folks that need you.

I kept machines running my whole working life and I felt very personal towards many of them if that makes any sense.
I can't imagine the emotional weight of trying to keep people running... Respect.

    Well, fuck!

Case cover has some nasty cracks!

Was hoping they were just casting marks. Took it apart to get a look at the inside. Yep, cracks there too.

I soapy water/compressed air tested and no bubbles were evident. These cracks are along the oil journal to the crank bearing.

    Best to just replace it.

$130 for a new cover. Fuck it! It's still costing me less than a new one...if you can find one.

The GT500 is getting a new loader valve today. It came with two separate valves that…loosely controlled the loader. I think they were tired internally because when you commanded boom lift, you’d have to run through a small spot where it would loose hydro pressure and the loader would drop before it eventually applied lift pressure. Not a huge deal for dirt work but sucked trying to unload the truck with pallet forks.

    CA30DE94-C6F9-47E7-8843-171425EB0A14.jpg

While I’ve got it down to do the loader valve, I’m getting around to fixing the exhaust manifold leak that was annoying to listen to under load.

Cover shows up next Monday, or sooner.

I only need to grab some motor mount bolts and hook up the wiring. I'm hoping it's done within the next week or so.
