About time to change tires

I have had both falken's at3 and toyo at3 I will go back to the falken's when the toyo's where out.

 

Interesting, I am running Coopers and was thinking of trying the Toyo next based off all the great feedback on TW. What is it you do not like about the Toyo AT3?

 

Falkens or Toyos FTW. Currently running the Toyos on my daily and theyre amazing.

They're pretty new.

I looked at them when they first came out and it looked like they were super heavy. They have some SL versions now, and the weight looks good.

They might be my next set. Their MT's are some of the best. I expect the Baja Boss AT to be an excellent tire.

Since I would mostly be a mall crawler, when you mean soft does that reflects on fast wear?

 

I like this answer. I have C load on my work vehicle and I like them. Got a little louder than and I expected, but they seem to hold of well and won't hut the gas mileage as much as heavier E load tires.

I went with skinny tires myself and got the Cooper S/T Maxx tires in 255/85/16. I love them and recommend them.

EDIT: I saw comments about the noise and agree. For me I didn't really notice the noise until after 20,XXX miles. Got really loud around 35,XXX-40,XXX miles. Still think it is a good enough tire though

Not as aggressive looking, but I’ve had a pretty great experience with Michelin’s AT tire. I’ll probably get another set once these need replacing.

 

I agree noise louder as miles racks up but the good thing is you won’t notice or hear the rear diff howl/whine anymore

 

Where do you drive? Weather? I'm guessing you want year round tires? Is road noise a concern? Do you want something similar to the Goodyear's in looks and function? Or something meatier?

 

I've had the AT2s and AT3's. Now I have the wildpeaks. They are all good. The wildpeaks do look better, but I've noticed no drastic changes between the Toyos or falkens. Both perform well.

Just something to consider.....think about the type of driving you will do. If you are 90% pavement princess (like mine) you may want to consider what you'll be giving up in ride comfort and noise vs what you will gain with a more aggressive off-road tire. Also consider the terrain you will be exploring. Will it be flat dirt and gravel or will you be doing some serious rock crawling and/or mudding? If it's more the former, a set of Michelin LTX AT2s will be more than capable enough and you won't be giving up anything on pavement, which is where you spend the vast majority of your time. My point is just consider your needs and get the tire that meets them while giving up as little as possible where you spend most of your time.

 

BREAKING NEWS: All aggressive A/T tires get loud as they wear! M/T tires get even louder.

E Load tires will always be a ruffer ride, and will kill your gas mileage.

Love my C Load 265/75/16 Duratracs. Only wish they came in a 255/85/16

I have 265/75/16 Goodyear Ultra Terrains on my Tacoma, 265/70/18 Toyo's AT-III's on my F150. I'm extremely pleased with both. The Goodyears are more aggressive looking, but so far neither tire has come up short off road. The Toyo's ride better (quieter).

That said I don't think you could go wrong with Falken's, Goodrich KO2's or Goodyear Duratrac's or several others. It just depends on which you think looks better and how much you want to spend.

The Ultra Terrains were the price value leader in the size I needed for my Tacoma when I bought. That same tire was a lot more expensive in the sizes for my Ford. At least at the time I got a better deal on the Toyo's in the size I needed for my Ford.

If you were to go with Duratracs again... which would you choose 265/70R16 112S or LT265/75R16 112Q C?

70's are SL rated / 4 ply and two lbs lighter
75's are C rated / 6 ply yet they have the same load rating (2470lbs)
75's have deeper tread (2/16")
