I did this job yesterday and I noticed a smell too and they left my window cracked which was weird. Mine however was more of a motor oil smell, but still odd to be on the inside of the cab because they didnt do anything inside.

That smell is most likely a tech covered in oil all up in your truck.
One of their techs must have had gear oil on their boots or hands when the serviced my transmission this last time.
I hate the smell of gear oil.

Just got the notice in the mail about the recall. I was like WTF??? My truck is only a few months old. (I didn't really read it well) They must have been sending it to me for my 2018 Tacoma that I just sold. LMAO!!!

    None (yet)
I'm at the dealership now getting inspected and they said they can't do this due to the cap. They said "bring it back without the cap" - which is easier said than done.

Fwiw, I've got no leak issues, so probably just wait to see if I do down the road.

Same boat here, but luckily I called ahead to ask anticipating it'd be an issue for them. Considering it definitely is much easier said than done, I just hit the perimeter of the brake light with some clear silicone.

Same as both of you. The past few times I was in the service department, they kept making comments my truck is "highly modified" and trying to get me to say we go off road and such. I'm done with them. I bought some silicone, bought the new trim piece to fix it myself, and called it a day. No water leaks so far (I'm in AZ) so not worried about the inside.

Same story for me. Even more annoying, I had to bring it back a second time because they didn’t have the trim rings the first trip. On the flip side, it’s a one time headache and puts Toyota on the hook. Tough call I think. No big deal on the light itself but lame to have water leak trouble.

Junior engineers should stick to designing decals and leave the important stuff to the grownups.

Had it replaced in Oct due to recall. Prior to that, no water problems. Now my back seat is moldy and wet. Took it back in and they claim they can't find a leak after water intrusion test. My warranty expires in April. What recourse do I have if they can't identify the water leak source? My back seat is ruined and I fear continued leaking is inevitable. I just bought it used last April (2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD)

A tech at my local toyota dealer told me it would be in the way when I went in for my first service. He then proceeded to examine the light and told me I had the "upgraded gasket". Not sure if he was full of it, the gasket is visible approx 1-2mm around.

The new gasket is considerably wider than the old one.
