Direct from rsi (whoever they have in tx anyway). I think I just got lucky because I didn’t request these but when we talked weeks back I said I wasn’t interested in the “updated” locks and I just would wait for the lock covers. I think he just sent these as a temporary substitute because they don’t know when the lock manufacturer will have them available.

static strength. aesthetics. practicality. security. blah blah blah...

kind of a silly question that has 114 pages praising/bitching about it already.... but yeah, its a preference like everything else discussed on this forum.

    Preference.

It's built much better than every other crap I've seen in person save for AluCab which I only saw after paying for the RSI.

Steel is an absurd material choice in my opinion (weight, heat retention, rust, etc.), but they don't make this handsome cap in aluminum, so... :notsure:

That said, certain things still suck about it, mainly the door handles. For a $3,500+ cap it's insane how shitty the handles are and surprising there's not more public backlash regarding them.

if you get a bare bones fiberglass cap the price difference may be around 30%. but every quote i've gotten, you only need to throw in a couple options and you're quickly within a couple hundred of the RSI/RLD/Alu-cab prices, which come with a number of options that would be extra on the traditional brands. personally, i don't like the weight or the look of fiberglass and would rather have aluminum. i was leaning towards the Alu-cab for a while but you don't get many options unless you wait (and pay) for a custom build. i priced an ARE DCU (commercial aluminum cap) which... would probably be fine though the build quality and design aren't really impressive. the handles and locking mechanisms aren't as sleek but you can't beat them for functionality. the Tradesman aluminum caps are really impressive, but very expensive.

I’ve owned several toppers and the RSI is superior in every way, especially for the price. I almost went ARE this time but the price was about the same and the RSI got delivered to my door. I was able to assemble and install it myself with out having some lazy dealer half ass the install. You can say you don’t like the looks but you’re lying to yourself and us if you think a fiberglass topper that weighs the same as steel but not as strong “runs laps” around the RSI. Plus, anything you want to add can just be adhered with magnets. Way better than having to through bolt and reseal your fiberglass. If fiberglass were better, I would have bought one but it’s not.

well mine does, i got a high roof, ibe never needed a steel shell thats small as hell, i seen it in person just an ordinary cap that is made of steel thats it, oh and is priced like 4k$ plus. im just saying i dont get it, if ur happy with it great but im not banging the topper with a mallet.

I can take some photos later on but I can tell you right now that mine looks like the sport from the passenger side, and an Adventure on driver side. Can’t capture both sides in one photo.

I would buy three SMARTCAPs than buy one of what you have. See everyone has an opinion.

He’s from Covina not even close to the beach or the valley. He is close to the 909. He definitely could be troll qualified.

Yep. Had plenty of fiberglass. Heavy, crack, poor craftsmanship, window come out of alignment yadayada.
