I went to the grocery store today. Sign on the door said no foods or drinks inside.

    So I went home.

Woke up at 130 realized the power was out . Coldest night of the year . Put some more wood on the fire and put the generator to use . Watched TV until power came back on . ( because I have an antenna on the roof) had no cell signal or internet service either . Another reason to get the f@ck out of this area . Hillbilly motha F’ers . If I needed an ambulance or fire truck we would have been screwed .

It's 10 degrees here right now.

I can't imagine being without a generator... and plenty of firewood for the hearth insert.
Even though a pellet stove is my primary source of heat now.

No auto kick on the generator?

We looked at a Generac system, but never pulled the trigger. Figured we would include it in the building plan when we finally leave this shit-hole state and go back down south.

I do, however, have a diesel pull behind job site generator or two I could use in a pinch..lol

I looked into Generac stand by generators just a short time ago. They're not as expensive as I thought but still pretty big chunk of change.
My house had the breaker box with generator position so I have it wired in a way that's not bad to hook up temp power, but running watt is only 3,500 so I first shut off all breakers then cycle a few on.
    Good morning whatever

I have a 5,500 watt Generac I used when I subcontracted interior trim.
It's just about at the upper limit to call "portable".
It's a brute and has served me well... just had it serviced back in August.

I've considered the kind of setup you mention.
But when I need the generator, it's good enough to run a couple heavy cords with splitters into the house.
Pellet stove, fridge, microwave, a few lights...:notsure:

Never been without power for more than a day. :fingerscrossed:
