I haven't any plans for today. Thoughts about calling the welder dude friend that sits behind me at work, asking for help with door strike repair.
But then, there I go fixing a problem created by stupidity on my son's part, no pain for him.
I should let him figure out how to deal with it. Wonder if he could even find a shop that would touch it due to liability concerns.

That repair is going to require the complete donor area. It will have to be sourced from a junk yard. They will saws all the latch and sheet metal around it.
then the old piece will also be cut out of your truck. Weld in place. Make the kid hunt up the part.

Then approch the welder. We have no trouble doing the repair, its the hiuning and prep work that takes most of the time.

 

I was thinking of a more cobbled up, blacksmith type of repair that I think would work provided the hinge bushings are replaced at the same time. It's a 2000 model year approach 200k miles. Transmission rebuild short time ago though.

 

Playing around with the CAD program this morning. Was curious how hard i would be to draw up something similar to wha I posted last week.

I could have bought the plans to something similar, but wanted to try my hand at doing it myself.

 

I thought the difficult part of making them would be getting that strip at the edge all wrapped around there neatly. That be paramount to strength of it.
