Too bad you aren't closer. I'd pull the middle interior trim piece to take the striker off, beat the metal back to where it "should" be, and crank my welder to "11" For those saying it's gonna require extensive surgery; it's a 2000 Blazer. It might have a couple more usable years left. I've seen many striker areas put back welded like I would do...

 

Ugh, we're getting that crap later on today. I somehow have to get the beater started to move things around in the garage...

 

All that time for the screen door and you have it propped open LOL

 

Making it all on your own is going to be more satisfying. Make sure you post up the finished product!

 

Wrapping the band iron is not hard at all. Just have to weld and work it as you go.

I assume you'd use some flat bar and work your way around.. I think it would be cool to wrap the inside of the leg holes too to sort of tie it all together. Would be a little more work but the little details can take a project from cool to AWESOME.

This CAD guy thinks you did a great job! A bit of mirroring and centering the cut outs and presto!

 

If the ID of the holes matches the OD of a piece of pipe, that would be a simple addition.

Says the guy that's never done any of this...

 

I was just about to tag you and ask about the welder your using on the Talon. It looked to work fine for what your doing. My thoughts exactly about the repair.

 

Plenty of ways to repair from perfect to various stages of not bad to various stages of red neck..

 

This was @ 5:30 am with pea size chunks of sleet falling.....

 

The look would be off unless the thickness of the pipe is the same thickness of the flat bar used on the edges.. and I too have not done any of this.. but I can certainly see it in my mind LOL

 

I had the words "matching pipe" in my post originally but took it out. If you can't find one that matches, I'd absolutely leave it out.

Thinner walls might look alright, too, but not thicker.

 

We're getting good at planning other people's projects! HAHA

 

Most will just dimple die the holes. It's faster, and doesn't require more iron.

 

I'm still learning the CAD software.

18 months ago I could not even draw a square.
