Tacoma frame front half will be in my possession tomorrow. Going to take some time to jig it up then start teaching myself about swing set steering. Might take me until this time next year to get it figured out but I am done with all of these steering woes. I’ll order another OE rack to get me by in the meantime.

Best of luck, gonna be neat to follow along. You should make a dedicated thread to it and your progress for easier sharing.

I will definitely do that. I won’t be starting until after my build is done. But I might start locating things like the crank and AC pulleys.

Probably too busy building the trophy bug. Could try calling or hitting him up on IG. I know he’s very active in there.

From what I’ve seen of that setup, it locates the tie rod for their J arm setup. Which would be too far back for the JD. I spent the night measuring and figuring and I think I can pretty much land the pivot point in my current location with the slide rack. Will see if the geometry will work or not. It’s pretty tight in there. But I think it’s doable.

You loose your AC compressor with that setup, if you want to keep it the steering box will need to be on the outside of the frame. Also I wouldn’t do a swing set as it’s extremely tight and the swinging of the center link will cause some bump steer in this application. Instead have the relay rod come off the pitman and drive a bigger slide rack

I was also looking at that part as well. The way they have it setup the height of the pivot point constantly changes in the range of motion. Which I could imagine would do some wonky shit.

Essentially you need to build a bigger slide rack that is driven off of a steering box instead of the rack. Jesse has this setup in his Chevy and it works really, really good

I would love to see how that’s setup. I guess I’ve never seen anything done like that but it sounds like a great idea

Got a little playing in this afternoon. This white stuff sure is fun to mess around in. Best part is, snowbanks are forgiving. Just trying not to break anything between now and the start of the build.

Some good progress today. Except Radflo sent the wrong size misalignment spacers. So, need those asap. FFS

Looking good, and just an FYI you will have to push the lower arm back. Without the slide rack you can’t run the arm that far forward otherwise the tie rod hits the shock

Sounds good. We just initially put all spacers rear. After seeing how much room we are already planning on at least one if not 2 spacers towards the front.
Or do we need to do all 3 front?

Is that true for stock geometry too? Not that it matters now but before the slide rack I ran it all the way forward and quite possibly never even looked at that…
